Class History As freshmen, the class of '62 entered with an enrollment of an unlucky number of 13. We selected as our officers: Charlotte Wilkes, President: J. D. Downing, Vice-President: Russ Hansen, Secretary-Treasurer; and Kathy Waters, Student Council Representative. Soon after we had class election, the traditional initiation of green freshmen took place. The Sophomores did a good job on us, because after our initiation there was a restriction placed on how much lipstick could be spread over the freshmen of the following years. As a treat to the Sophomores we gave them a Sock-Hop to show them there were no hard feelings. The school year of 60-61 found the class of '62 with an increased enrollment of one. Dur- ing the summer we lost Theresa Elmer and Linda Braswell and gained Bill Bailey, Joyce Doron, and Darlene Reiman. We chose as our able-bodied class officers: Charlotte Wilkes, President; Sharon Johnson, Vice-President; Kathy Waters, Secretary-Treasurer; and Kathy Eyerly, Student Council Representative. Our most joyful day (outside of the last day of school) was our revenge on the freshmen. This year we sponsored car washes, and sometimes got ourselves cleaner than the cars we TRIED to wash. Our class reached its peak in size during our junior year. We had a grand total of 15. We lost Darlene Reiman and gained Wanda Gaultney and Joyce Garrison. This year the class officers were Joyce Garrison, President; Roger Brandt, Vice-President; Susan Creason, Secretary-Treas- urer; and Sharon Johnson, Student Council Representative. At the beginning of the year, plans were started for the prom. We sponsored different money-making projects and succeeded in honoring the seniors with a banquet and prom in a ” Garden of Friendship . We were pleased and proud when Joyce Garrison was selected homecoming princess. Our last duty as juniors was to decorate for baccalaureate and commencement. With only 12 members our senior year, we found it hard not to be trampled by the lower classes, but we were used to it as we were one of the smallest classes in school all four years. We lost Charlotte Wilkes, J. D. Downing, Joyce Garrison, and Wanda Gaultney and gained Artie Miller. Bill Bailey was chosen President, Russ Hansen as Vice-President, Kathy Turner as Secretary-Treasurer, and Rosalie Thomas as Student Council Representative. We were honored in the fact that the homecoming royalty was all members of the Class of '62. Kathleen Eyerly reigned as queen and her attendants were Kathy Waters and Sharon Johnson. The juniors honored us with a banquet and prom of the Roaring 20’s . Our sneak day was a big success as we learned some interesting information and some interesting non-information about Kansas City. Baccalaureate found the seniors just realizing that they were really graduating and B. H. S. would soon be just a fond memory. Our final duty as seniors was putting on the program for class night. A skit was planned and, although that night there was quite a bit of adlibbing, the pro- gram was a success. Commencement came and with it came the march up the steps and onto the stage for the last time as high school students.
