ENGLISH i The main goal of the English Department is to make the study of English meaningful to all students. To achieve its goal, the department has been divided into specific grade levels de- signed to develop the maximum potential of all students, regardless of ability, or of vocational or educational plans. The program is greatly enriched through the use of audio-visual ma- terials. A basic speech class, taught by Mr. Outlaw, is for those who need to strengthen oral skills of communication. Mr. Robert Taylor is not pictured. Clinton Taylor and Robert Henderson get help from Mrs. DeCoster. Mrs. Laurent adds humor to her English Class. Mr. Leslie Gilkerson Mrs. Robert O'Berry Apprentice Teacher SCIENCE Science has an undisputed place at the head of American society. American scientific ad- vancements have made America the wealthiest and greatest nation in the world. Biology, the study of life, is divided into an advanced course taught by Mr. Roddenberry, and basic Biology, taught by Mr. Anthony, Mr. Gilkerson, and Mrs. Harris. General Science, taught by Mr. Gilkerson and Mrs. Harris, gives students a foundation in the sciences, while Physics and Chemistry, with Mr. Neely as instructor, gives college-bound students the fundamentals of the higher sciences. Lighting a Bunsen burner is serious business. 26
