Text from Pages 1 - 184 of the 1967 volume:

The success of any endeavor is partially dependent on the spirit with which the endeav- or is attacked. Like- wise, the success of a school year is depend- ent upon the spirit of the students, faculty, and administration. Spirit, however, in- volves much more than cheers of encourage- ment at a football game, for there are many kinds of spirit. There is . . . I 2 of Knowledge Teachers, counselors, books, maps, and ma- chines are all available to instruct and to enlighten the student. However, these elements alone cannot instill and perpetuate the spirit of knowledge—there must he willing minds. There must be searching minds that desire to know what is what and what is good. If there are such minds, the spirit of knowl- edge will endure; and knowledge will indeed “grow from more to more.” As well as the spirit of knowledge in the school, there is ... The Spirit of Friendship Between boy and boy, between girl and girl, between boy and girl, between student and teacher, between teacher and parent there must be bonds of friendship. Club projects, parties, lunch periods, and conferences—no less a part of school life than classes—would be meaningless with- out friendship. However, as long as the spirit of friendship prevails, school will he a stimulating and gratifying experi- ence, for “friendship is the breathing rose, with sweets in every fold.” In addition to the spirit of knowl- edge and the spirit of friendship, school has ... 5 . . . The Spirit of Competition Not only in sports events but also in exams, in beauty contests, in talent contests, and in debates, the spirit of competition ex- ists. Rivalry is a prime force behind inspira- tion, and a challenge never fails to excite the alert mind. Although adversity may seem un- desirable, the enthusiasm aroused by com- petition leads to excellence. The spirit of com- petition, therefore, is vital in a productive in- stitution. 7 Echo 1967 Bartow High School Bartow, Florida Lvnn Sharp, Editor The spirit of knowledge, the spirit of friendship, and the spirit of competition—all these forms of spirit are nec- essary for a successful school year; and all these forms of spirit were active during the 1966-’67 school year at Bar- tow High School. This yearbook is a memento of the rousing cheers, the knowing glances, the winning smiles, the zealous co-opera- tion, and the thoughtful meditations of all the members of the school community. To revivify the enthusiasm of ’67 is the purpose of this record. In short, this is an Echo of . . .
