Cheerleaders stir student emotions Helping to boost our Cougar Pride was the lively squad of eight cheer¬ leaders. The cheerleaders were sel¬ ected by members of the faculty and the Student Senate in October. Those qual¬ ifying were Joan and Jan Weiser, Brenda Williams, Barbara Knobloch, Al Petz, Mark Hauser, Roger Switzer, and Kent Sallee. Alternates were Becky Miller, Nancy Lindholm, and Mary Lou Linenber- ger.

First yearbook: A study in frustration Even though an original decision had been made not to pub Iish a yearbook the .first year of the college ' s existence, a staff was selected to begin planning for the first book. When, in late October, the original decision was reversed, the staff changed its plans and began work on a publication to record the story of the beginning of a college. Under the direction of managing editor Lee Barlow and copy editor Celeste Pros¬ ser, the book began to take shape, with the thought that it, like the student newspaper, would be printed in the school print shop. However, pressure on the shop for production of a catalogue as well as the normal printing load of necessary school materials forced a- nother change With an early April deadline facing them, the staff put together pictures and stories to commemorate the histor¬ ical first year of the Bissell Point campus. Other students aiding in the publication were Debby Schonhoff and Joan Ochs. (6) Art Editor Joan Ochs designs the first SPOKE cover. (7) Yearbook Copy Editor Celeste Prosser checks facts before she writes her copy. (8) SPOKE Editor Lee Barlow works on a final layout to be sent to the printer.
