It is sometimes called the right arm of the student body. Serving as the voice of the stu¬ dents, it also supports and strengthens other school organizations. The Student Council consists of members chosen from each home¬ room. These students are chosen for their leadership and co-operation. The goal of the Student Council is to help improve our school, and help other students to accept the responsibilities that are rightfully theirs. 58 JACK POINTER... RAY DAVIS.. F. A. as it is commonly called is a national organization for urban and farm boys from 14 to 21 years of age. It was organized in 1928 by some devoted agriculture teachers who felt that farm boys needed more than just learning how to farm. Since then it has become one of the greatest organizations for boys in the world. It not only has an active member¬ ship in the U. S., but in Puerto Rico also. The primary aim of the F. F. A. is to develop ag¬ gressive, competent, leadership. No time in our nation ' s history has the need been so great. The F. F. A. is a natural and practical program which believes in having by doing. It helps to explore careers directly related to agriculture and to recognize a need for continuing education. 63 Seated left to right: Gloria Myers; Cherry Apple; Doris England; Vickie McCann. The purpose of a school paper is to publish the news and events of student and school life. It may also be a springboard for those students who will pursue careers in journalism or allied fields, where it helps to know how to write clearly and concisely. The school newspaper reflects the kind of school it represents. Our high school years were saddened in the summer of 1962 by the tragic death of an irreplaceable classmate. Yanceyville, North Carolina Telephone OW4-2331 Two frogs fell into a deep milk bowl. One was an optimistic soul But the other took the gloomy view. We shall drown, he cried, without more ado. So with a last despairing cry. He flung up his legs and he said, Goodby. Quoth the other frog with a merry grin, I can ' t get out, but I won ' t give in; I ' ll just swim around till my strength is spent; Then will I die the more content. Bravely he swam till it would seem His struggles began to churn the cream. On top of the butter at last he stopped And out of the bowl he gaily hopped. The moral we attempt to define.
