A- E: 4 T E21 - :lf 1917-1977 E 22-qiife f A -4- ' T ' n ' H Na- .P su hfxr n f The main building was erected sixty years ago as Bartlett High School's origi- nal structure. It has long been a landmark of the community and has bg-come a tradi- tion. When the building is torn down in the summer of l977, a new, more modern structure will take its place, but nothing can replace the cherished memory of pass- ing through its wide spacious halls over floprs where countless other students have trod. The main building, with its creaky stairs, maiestic front steps, and old fashioned architecture will truly be missed by all at Bartlett. The PANTHER PARADE is not only proud, but honored, to dedicate the I977 Volume to a faithful friend, the main build- ing. 8 pq- ru! lh I U IIC1 sxs 1' ' k H -If Ill lil lil Ill Ill Ill Ill - I ,,.,-- 1 1' 20 CLASSES 4.14 Cub '-f 11 Freshmen W-nw-5 and Danny Rickerl, Treas.p Marilyn Dawson, Vice Pres.5 Carolyn Dawson, res., ar g , .5 Coord. The football fortunes at Bartlett High School shine brightly with a freshman football team that amassed a string of five exciting victories against only two losses for the season. Such victories were achieved with whole- hearted, dedicated support of their cheerleaders, but a lackluster support of the entire student body on some occasions. With these young men advancing to the ranks of varsity squad members next year, indeed the football program looks upward and onward. The entire week was filled with the enthusiasm and excitement of the entire student body. The students started the week with iersey day, followed by red and blue day. They ended the week with painters' pants day. There were the traditional bonfire and parade, numerous skits, a pep rally, and spirit links. The events ended with the Homecoming football game, the naming of the queens and court, and the dance. During the summer months they practiced three hours each day, Monday through Friday. Several times to break the monotony of practice, they brought cold drinks and snacks to the football team, who were also practicing. They attended summer camp, sponsored by Universal Cheerleaders Association at the Uni- versity of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas, where they yvon the spirit stick four times during the week, won first place in the pom pom routine competition, and won the overall competition at camp. ln the fall besides cheering at pep rallies and hgving numerous fund-raising activities, such as car washes and dances to finance their activities and to buy uniforms, the girls entered the Mid- South Fair Cheerleading Contest. There they tied with Jonesboro, Arkansas for first place. In the spring as a community service, they con- duct a clinic for students interested in learning more about cheerleadinQ They assist elementary and iunior high girls prepare for cheerleader try- outs and they serve as iudges in various tryouts. The staff got off to a slow start, complicated by the many days of snow. As the deadline neared, the action picked up, and soon the staff was once again working to compose an annual which would somehow reflect the events and memories of the school year. We the annual staff would like to thank the student body, faculty, and community, for without you the PAN- THER PARADE would be nothing more than a dream. The things that you do affect the people around you. - Miss Lynn Aitchison You get out of anything EXACTLY what you put into it. - Mr. D. Bellamy Never underestimate the importance of a high school education. - Mr. W. S. Bur- ton Always strive for the impossible goal. You may reach it. - Mr. J. l. Cullum The backbone of your life will be the edu- cation you receive. Get as much as you can and retain as much as you can. The more you have, the better life you'll have and everyone wants the good life. - Mr. T. Farley To labor with one's hands as well as their mind is honorable. Begin learning now to get along with people before you get out of school . . . then when you are out in the real world you will'learn that getting along with people is a real asset if you expect to make it in today's business worldl - Ms. Laverne Kennedy Get all the education you can. You may lose all material possessions, but no one can take your education away from you. - Mrs. Maruta Krastins Bartlett has the best students anywhere and I hope you continue to be. But, it takes hard work and a lot of self-discipline to continue this. Keep up the good work. - Coach A. L. Kuntzman To be successful, a person must train him- self so that he knows how to do something well and then be willing to do it. - Mr. David E. McPherson Failing is funny to ninth graders until the next year comes around and all of your friends are upper classmen and you're still a dumb freshman. - Mrs. Patsy Oliver I'm supposed to provide a message. I would rather not. I would rather say noth- ing, Ieave nothing. But then, you'd only have my picture in an annual. That's all you'd remember. You wouldn't remember me, the person, the way I laughed, or the way I frowned. The way I could speak softly, the way I could scream. And you 232 A Message to the Students wouldn't know why I screamed, why I frowned. You wouIdn't know how I've wondered about you - why you scream, why you rage, why you laugh. None of us has known the other. That's it. We haven't taken the time or we haven't cared. And we've iust kept on. So all we have now are pictures in an annual. And messages? They took too much time. Too much effort. - Miss A. Olswanger Be yourself. Don't put on false airs. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Remember that no matter what your career might be, put your best efforts into it and you'll get the best out of it. - Ms. Robbie N. Pulliam 'And gladly would he learn and gladly teach.' May these words follow you throughout Iife. - Mrs. Imogene P. Reid Whatever confronts you, there is no need to be dismayed, if you have Christ in your life. - Mrs. Gertrude J. Settles Are you thinking of a vocation? If so, come out from behind that mask of HIDE and SEEK. This mask is important. It is used by people to conceal their real thoughts and feelings, not from other people, but from themselves. You should work harder at being what you should be than hiding what you are. Whatever you do, take Jesus as a member of your team and pull off that mask. You will find that knowing yourself as you are, rather than disguising and hiding your real feelings, will make you happier. Good luck and happy sail- ing. - Mrs. Teretha Smith Keep your black pens handy, your note cards ready, your brains in gear, and your mouths shut. - Mrs. Linda G. Thompson May your dreams always exceed your grasps. - Ms. Judy Ann Thorne A friendly smile goes a long way. - Mrs. Bonita C. Dunavant Ask yourself these questions. Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? It is impossible to enioy others and establish a good relationship with people until you have some understanding of seIf. - Mrs. Marianne Kinsey 233 4 My personal advice to each stu- dentis: Cultivate loyalty to your country, your family, and your religion. Working on the 1977 PANTHER PARADE confirmed the belief held by many that I am a true scatter- brain. l must admit that when deadlines neared, and the pressure grew, my mind did not function normally, but with long hours and the help of loyal staff members, the yearbook was pulled together. , Many new and different ideas have been included in this book. It is my sincere hope that you get as much pleasure out of it as I have by working on it. It certainly would have been no pleasure to work on without the patient help of our advisor, Mrs. Gaines. lt goes without saying that her patience and understanding make the PANTHER PARADE possible.
