Ifuji, geisha girls, heautiful silk kimonos, and lots of rice. These are what came to my mind, too, when I first found out that I would spend eleven weeks in Tokyo with the Yamasaki family. Now, looking hack on my A.If.S, summer, I can see the country and my experience in a better perspective. The commercial and tourist places are only a small part of the whole, They are of little lasting value in com- parison to the people I met, friends I made, and things I learned. We spent one week vacationing in the heart of Brittany' where I was charmecl by' the Celtic culture and people. After four weeks with my' family' I joined nine other Experimenters and their French brothers and sisters for a three-week camping trip in France. Luxemburg, Germany, and Switzerland, VVe then spent a week in Paris seeing as much as we could of the famous sights and exciting people before returning to the United States. The Experiment experience was valuable to me in many' ways but especially in that it was a living, breath- ing experience-one that has made the world, the cul- ture, the people across the sea much more real to me than ever before. On june 15th, the girls left Kansas City for New York where they met Mrs. Clara Barnes and tive more girls from various parts of the coun- try. The group flew from New York to Athens, Greece, where they spent three days sight- seeing hefore setting out on a hoat cruise among the Creek Islands. They stopped lmrietly in Turkey and then traveled on to Italy for several exciting days in Rome, Florence, and Milan. From Italy the girls proceeded to Swit- zerland to embark on a tour-day motor tour from Geneva to Zurich. They then traveled to France where they spent one month studying in Paris and taking weekend trips to Versailles, Fontainehleau and the French tlliateaii country. This year the Freshman and Sophomore classes were given two weeks to rehearse several acts from Shakespeares K'Taming of The Shrewfi The girls concentrated on originality and interpretation. The Fresh- men substituted different actresses through- out the play while the Sophomores invented a very clever introduction. Both plays were given in gym clothes with as little scenery as possible.
