During her years at BHS she was not only our teacher and class sponsor, but a friend wil- ling to help and guide us. We are very grateful to have had the privilege of knowing her, for she was a great influence and an example of a woman with high ambition and courage. 4 From 1874 this building has been the hub of activity of our community. A hundred years of laughter, tears, pranks, and serious study have passed through these rooms. We, the Class of 1973, co-dedicate our annual to this building, from which we will be the last class to graduate. It's like saying farewell to an old friend. Although we will be parted, the memories will last forever. 5 ADMINISTRATION FACULTY Administration SEATED—D. Peile, C. Blackorby, R. Gleckler, F. Reeve. STANDING—Mr. Hoskin, B. Smith, L. West, B. Our first grade teachers consisted of Mrs. Hunter and Mrs. Reinhardt of Barry and Mrs. Williams of El Dara. The be- ginning class contained approximately 38 members. Making it through recesses and milk breaks, we survived our first grade year. Miss Gilbert, Miss Fitch, and Mrs. Williams headed the list of teachers for our second year. Our knowledge was slowly but surely increasing. In third grade, Mrs. Jennings, Mrs. Ward, and Mrs. Hoskin took over our energetic class. This year held a train trip in store for all of us. Our fourth year led us to bigger and better rooms. Mrs. Card, Miss Oitker and Mrs. Motley took control of our ever- increasing class. Come the fifth year of school, we could hardly wait to get to sixth grade, because then we would be just a step away from Junior High. We had as our fifth grade teachers, Mrs. Hallock, Mrs. Alford, and Mrs. Motley. Sixth grade ended our little grade years and started our road to Junior High. Teachers this year were Mrs. Jennings, Mrs. Jenkins, and Mrs. Motley. Juinor High was finally here at last. This year brought ten El Dara students to Barry. There was always an art, speech, or music contest to keep us seventh graders on our toes. Those Junior High parties were somthing else, too! The eighth year, we took a trip to Springfield and toured many beautiful historic sites. Eighth grade graduation was a big highlight of this year. Keeping in step during this event was one of the hardest ob- stacles we ever had to overcome. Miss Leeds and Mr. Wright sponsored us through these two trying Junior High Years. High School was finally here! Our last four years of education began in August, 1969. Freshman Initiation started our ninth year of school. The 'goin' got pretty rough singing We Love You Seniors , but all in all we had a pretty grand time. Mrs. Bethard and Mr. Heavner kept us out of trouble this year. Driver's Training was looking us in the eye our Sophomore year. Coach Fray, our teacher, luckily survived all the screeching tires. Later that year, we ordered our class rings from Josten's. Everyone was so excited when the rings finally arrived. Mrs. Herr and Mr. Henderson, our sponsors, tried to maintain peace and quiet during this time. Lots of candy makin', com poppin', and soda sellin' started us on our Junior year. Rest Assured , our class play, turned out to be a big success, though there were some doubts about everyone knowing their lines. Mr. Hal Simpson directed the play. Prom soon came around the comer and everyone was hustling and bustling to get the gym decorated. Our theme, IMAGINE , seemed to fit the lovely occasion. Miss Campbell and Miss Myers, our junior sponsors, helped us make it through this year. Thus ended our busy Junior year, which brings us up to the present-our Senior year. This year proved to be a Wreckless one. Several Senior boys, were involved in some type of vehicle accident. It's a wonder we have any Senior guys! Many work projects have filled this year thus far, but it's loads of fun because we are all working together for a com- mon goal, a class trip to New Orleans. Mrs. Lee and Mr. Rhoads, our sponsors, are just as excited as we are. Announcements and gowns have arrived and we are all awaiting the biggest event of all, our graduation from B.H. S. Another year has come to an end and another Senior class will go their own separate ways to a rewarding life awaiting them, but each and every one will never forget the treasured memories of Barry High School. CLASS OF '73 1973 Prophecy Here we are at the gates of Heaven, in the year 2073, watching the members of the Class of 73 arrive and pass through the Pearly gates. The first member we see coming through the gates is Anita Boren, who after graduation, established the largest chain of Cree-Mee's in the world. Anita met her untimely death when the Pepsi machine she was working on ex- ploded and she was drowned in a sea of soda. The next member we see is Debbie Clary, the world's oldest cheerleader, who after her graduation cheered every single Philadelphia 76ers game. Debbie met her death when she was trampled by excited fans when her team finally won a game. We now see Debby Erke the world famous chicken fryer. She met her death when she fell into a deep fat fryer at the Villiage Inn. And now we see Patty Fennel the world's largest dealer in Black Angus cattle. She eventually died of hoof and mouth disease. Entering now is Randy Gamer, our Great Evangelist, who took over for Billy Graham. While Randy was giving a sermon, 26 he yelled so loud that it cracked the Astrodome and it fell on him. Here we see Cary Grant, the test driver for General Motors. He was the first to test the 95 miles per hour safety bumper and found it didn't work. Debbie and Warren Jacobs, Mrs. Jacobs who was the former Debbie Grawe, publishers of the Barry Weekly Wiper, died when they tripped and fell into the press while putting out a rush order of the Wiper. All that could be found were 10,000 copies which were buried. Coming now is Carol Green Erke who became a world famous interior decorator. Carol was demonstrating flame proof curtains when she and the curtains went up in smoke. Has anyone seen Jeff yet? Approaching now are Regina Harris and Myma Nation. They were great Lab Techs at the Mayo Clinic, but unfortunately the experiment they were performing didn't work! Next is Jim Keller who became the first white player to play for the Harlem Globe Trotteis. Jim met his end during a racial riot when he couldn't take sides. And now, Jeff Lewton. Jeff?? Hey, where is Jeff??? We now see Nancy Likes who became the Florence Nightingale of the 21st century. Barb Metcalf who was awarded mother of the year for 20 straight years, however, died from tired blood! Our mad scientist, Greg Mills, is coming along now. After winning the Nobel Prize, it is sad that he met his death when his Super Duper Falcon blew up! Now approaching us is Steve Little, who became famous by inventing the first electric couch that turns into a bed. Steve was taken from us when he was caught as his invention was changing from a bed into a couch Janice Motley, one of the greatest oil painters, met her death when her safety belt failed on the Empire State Building when she was painting a mozaic on the outside wall of the top floor. Floyd Moss is now nearing the gates. Floyd became an Illinois State trooper but was killed in a gun fight with another trooper over who got to keep the confiscated goods. Coming toward us now is Pat Narog. Pat was one of us that had a very famous and worthwhile career. Pat was the oldest page in the history of the El Dara State legislature. Pat lived in Brazil until his death. What's that we see flying over the gates? It looks like a 62 Black Buick. Yes, it's the Crawdadmobile. And there's Johnny Mudcreek, alias John Kelley, sitting on the hood, waving his bayonet, and there's Gail Smith, alias Greg Sutton at the wheel and Nate Robertson, alias Larry Moyer, and Robert Rhoades hanging out the windows. But wait a minute, they aren't dead yet. Oh no, Mr. Smith can't see around the glorious halo that has always blessed Sir Mudcreek. Watch out for the gates! SMASH, OH NO!! The Crawdadmobile has dropped from sight. Here comes the boys crawling be- neath the gates. What's this we see, Mr. Mudcreek reaches out and touches each boy's head and their wounds disappear. It's a miraculous sight. Everyone in Heaven rejoices. Now he hurries off with his clean living American boys to see his father who runs the place. Here comes Jean Phillips, world famous for her portrayal of Rip Van Winkle. Jean also won an academy award for her performances. Jean's life ended within her own style. She died in her sleep, the thing she did best. Gayle and Steve Schmidt are coming now. Steve is the owner of a ranch in Texas, which isn't really a fantastic thing except that his ranch is half of Texas! While drilling for oil, Gayle and Steve got in the way and were last seen floating down the Gulf of Mexico on an oil slick. And now Jim Sisk the man who took over Hugh Heftner's place. Jim was killed while riding in his bunny jet. It seems that he put the jet on automatic pilot so that he could make sure his friends were comfortable in the passenger compartment. He was gone so long the jet ran out of fuel and Jim was seen hopping his way to heaven. Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Oh, here's Greg Redshaw. Known as Rapid Redshaw. Rapid was on a cross country minibike race when he took a wrong turn and ended up on an interstate during the rush hour! Mooooooooooooo! Here comes our cowgirl, Margaret Reeve! Margaret became the owner and operator of the largest dairy farm in the Mid-West. One evening, Margaret was milking her pet cow when the cow kicked over a lantern and near- ly burned El Dara to a crisp. No one is quite sure how Margaret made it, because when she arrived she was slightly singed. It may have been from the fire or maybe Margaret took a wrong turn! Here we see our car fiend, Julian Rodriguez. Julian died when he came home early one morning and forgot he had his car jacked up. It seems the car was 6 feet off the ground and Julian forgot his step ladder. SPLAT! ! Approaching now, I mean crawling, are our two winos, Valeri Motley and Jeanne Tunget pushing two cases of Straw- berry Hill. They came to their death when they were trying to prove that wine doesn't affect your driving. They unfor- tunately chose the Indianapolis 500 to prove it. Hey, here comes Christine Whitlock, our world renowned secretary. She's the only person in the world who could type 2l7 words a minute and take dictation at 300 words a minute. However, when she was about to top her last record of 217 w. a. m. , her electric typewriter blew up and electrocuted her. Our next classmate to arrive is Robert Newbrough, better known as Bulldozing Bobby, one of the foremost mountain sculptors by bulldozer. He met his death while sculpturing Rachel Welch. He slid off a curve. Approaching now is the Great Sarah Wood, the most famous actress the world has ever seen. Sarah gained world acclaim in her Broadway hit Off the Track. She was such a convincing actress no one ever noticed when she walked right off the stage! Susan Wallace, our professional babysitter, finally found some kids she couldn't handle. Suzie, while babysitting with Barb Metcalf's children one day, was forced into playing cowboys and Indians. She was found charcoal broiled in the mid- dle of their front room. Rick Williams, our famous book collector, was killed when he tried to stack two more books on his collection. His whole library of stacked books fell on him. Hey! Here comes Jeff now, looks like he finally made it! This isn't a costume party, I wonder why he's dressed up in that devil's costume? Now we see Grace Howell. Working at Motorola drove her to death. ... . . Here comes our great Buck Rodriguez alias Brad Rodriguez. He just pulled up in his Diamond Rio. He died spectacularly. 27 Buck was raring down a long straight stretch doing a hundred and fifty miles per hour in his big semi, when a bus load of children pulled out in front of him. He took for the ditch, smashed and disintegrated a concrete culvert, and tunneled into the ground, Six hundred feet under. This didn't hurt him, but as he was trying to pull the truck out bare handed, it caught fire and the 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel he always kept in his reserve tank exploded. And last but not least we see our Senior Class sponsors. Our first to approach the gates is Diane and Rollie Lee and all six of their boys. They were all killed when one of Rollie's eight track tape players exploded on the second chorus of Every- thing is Beautiful ! 7 Our second and last sponsor has just arrived, Mr. Rhoades. Mr. Rhoades led a very prosperous life until he was disabled from writers cramps. He was sent to a mental institution where he died when he thought his bed was his Pazzzas Ventura and went right out the window. Unfortunately he was on the 13th floor. It was Friday the 13th. The gates are now closing, for every member of the Class of 1973 has arrived. Judgment Day will soon arrive and I know that at least 50% of us will go the other way.
