THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1972 PROUDLY PRESENTS THE 1972 YR — RAB DAVELEAMON, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF LINDA HOYT, ASSISTANT EDITOR GALE HIRST, BUSINESS MANAGER KARLA BAINTER, SECRETARY-TREASURER MRS. DIANE LEE, ADVISOR BILL WADE STUDIO, TERRY WILLIAMS AND GARYRENNECKER, PHOTOGRAPHY We, the 1972 Senior Class, co-dedicate this annual to one of our fellow students and friends, Roger Lyle Gorton. Roger helped in as many ways as he could to make our years in grade school and high school fun and enjoyable. He made our time at school pass by quickly. Roger was helpful and hard working. He is sadly missed by all his classmates, teachers, and friends. With honor and pleasure, we co-dedicate the 1972 Yr-Rab to Roger Lyle Gorton. 4 Burwell Davidson was active in many activities concerning the school and the stu- dents. He helped to further the education of each and every one of the students of Barry High School by serving on the school board many years. Burwell helped to develop the interest and ability of the boys in athletics during their elementary school years which carried over to their high school years. We are proud to have known such a man as Burwell. Therefore, we co-dedicate our 1972 Yr-Rab to Mr. Burwell Davidson. 5 ADMINISTRATION FACULTY Administration MR. DONALD HOSKIN Supe rinte nde nt MR. CLASS HISTORY Some have come and some have gone but there are thirty-four seniors here to tell of their history. In the fall of I960, the first grade teachers were attacked by the now present senior class. The teachers were Mrs. Hunter, Mrs. Reinhardt, and Mrs. Williams of El Dara. The things we remember most were the printing of our alphabet, the rest periods, and the milk breaks. The next year we were under the supervision of Miss Gilbert, Miss Fitch, and Mrs. Williams. We advanced one more step to writing and what a feat that was. Our uncoordinated fingers and large pencils didn't seem to do what they were suppose to do. In the third grade, we learned to make real butter, adobe bricks, and hasty pudding. They tried out the new math system on us and we really had trouble with it. Mrs. Jennings, Mrs. Ward, and Mrs. Williams were the lucky ones that year. As we furthered on to fourth grade we continued with the new math. Mrs. Jennings retired that year so we all had a going away party for her. In November of that year President Kennedy was shot. Mr. Murphy, Mrs. Hallock, and Mrs. Motley of El Dara were our fifth grade teachers. We all had music class together with Mrs. Hallock. Every morning we had a Thought for the Day and we recited the Pledge of Allegiance. We then moved on to the sixth grade where we had as our teachers Mrs. Alford, Mrs. Waters, and Mrs. Motley. In the spring we took a hike and had a weiner roast down at Webb's Cabins. It seemed by this time we only had a few more years left and then we would be in high school. When we reached Junior High the kids from El Dara joined us. Our Junior High parties were the highlights of the year. We were always getting into trouble for the way we slow danced. We were kept busy with music, art and speech contests. For our class trip that year, we journeyed to Springfield. The trip included a tour of Lincoln's Home and the Capitol Building. A good time was enjoyed by all. In eighth grade we were once again involved with the Junior High parties and contests. This year our class trip was to Nauvoo and Keokuk. We toured the inside of the dam and the Morman buildings. The highlight that year for our class was eighth grade graduation! We will all remember the lights going out while the will was being read. After graduation we were all treated to ice cream and sodas at the Illinois Cafe by Miss Leeds and Mr. Wright. We started high school in 1968. We never realized all the hard work and fun that lay ahead of us. Our Class sponsors were Miss Diane Hale and Mr. Charles Heavner, they were the first to introduce us to some of the fun and money-making projects, such as our first car wash, bake sales, and candy sales. Also one of our big events that year was the Sesquicentennial Dance that was put on by the FHA girls. We were lucky enough to miss out on what all the Freshman were dreading--initiation, but the Seniors found it in their powers to make us feel welcome. In the fall of our Sophomore year, we realized that one of our challenging studies would be Drivers Training. Although, it was Coach Fray's first year of teaching Drivers Training and our first time behind the wheel, everyone was surprised that we suffered no casualties and we all miraculously obtained our licenses. Our sponsors that year were Miss Marilyn Campbell and Mr. Lawrence Henderson. In February of that year a representative from Josten's came and we ordered our class rings. For those who took biology, it's a wonder that their sense of sight and smell was not permanently injured by the formaldehyde fumes when we dissected frogs. Upon entering our Junior Year we inherited the job of poppin' corn and sellin' soda at our home basketball games. Miss Mary Myers and Miss Marilyn Campbell were our sponsors. Meet Me In St. Louis was our first class play and it turned out to be quite an experience for those who hadn't tried dramatics yet. We enjoyed putting this play together. The play was a great success thanks to our director, Mr. Hal Simpson. Impossible Dreams came true, May 14, 1971 in the Barry High School gym, when the class of 1972 presented the Junior-Senior Prom. The color scheme was midnight blue and silver. A wishing house in the center of the gym and a staircase to the stars helped portray our theme. During the summer of '71 we were faced with the death of one of our classmates, Roger Lyle Gorton. Our senior year began with high expectations of the events which would take place in the next few months. We were all determined to help the class activities. During the year we had many money-making projects to help fi- nance our trip to Florida. Our sponsors Mrs. Diane Lee and Mr. Hal Simpson have helped us to plan and carry out our projects. Our play this year was Get Witch Quick ? Graduation will come and pass and each of us will go his or her separate way, but we will carry with us the wonderful memories that we have shared at BHS. Class of 72 44 Prophecy '72 During our Senior Class play Get Witch Quick the witches encountered a weird experience. Looking into the bowl of black water, Mother Hecate, Teddy Lang, was surprisingly faced with the future of the class members. Teddy's first vision is of her own future, ten years from now. She sees herself in a huge rocking chair. Yes, she has replaced Edith Ann on Laugh In. Edith, or should we say Teddy, is placing a long distance call to Red China but is having difficulty with the operator, Alma Malone, who is the new Lily Tomlin. Next, Mother Hecate sees Dwight Ala, Father of the Year, as he enters with his six little red-haired boys who are currently starring in their new hit film, Cheaper by the Half-Dozen. Audrey Gully has been elected Mother of the Year. For her award she is to receive a 900 lb. gold diaper pin. All she has to do is get it home. On the political scene we see Vicki Monkman, first woman President. Vicki was elected for her honesty. When asked what she would do she stated, Nothing . Now that's honesty! A news bulletin has just been seen by Mother Hecate. Yes, it's Gale Hirst and he has just been elected mayor of El Dara, largest metropolis in the world. Several reports of riots and vandalism have been reported but the rioters and vandals are being kept under control by Peggy Evans, first Woman Chief of Police and her deputies Rosie Ditto and Kim Mathes. Peg's squad car has broken down; but don't panic it is being fixed at Gary's Grease Garage owned and operated by Gary Rennecker. Gary has just hired Marilyn Sutton, fastest woman mechanic. At the present time Marilyn is busy working on the cycles of Barry's Hell's Angels, Marsha Moyer and Kathy Stolte. Once their bikes are fixed they plan to ride to the Country Club for the awards dinner. Vanice Bradshaw has been nominated for an award for his performance in The Innkeepers Daughter or Dirty Work at the Stagecoach Stop . Vanice is also known as Fargo Fink. Bob Davidson, world famous engineer, has just received a Golden Outhouse Award for selling his 1,000,000th outhouse. Robert Monkman, president of People Against Pests is up for an award for a sure kill for bugs. Robert says, Just step on 'em, works every time. Mike Bradshaw is to receive the Seybold Seal of Approval for his being the fastest candy salesman in the world. And who could this be ? Yes, it is the famous scientist David Erke! David has been experimenting to see how many men his man-eating plant can hold before it's full. Good luck David, but please don't come to see us--we'll call you. Now where can the rest of the Seniors be? The black water is clearing a little and Mother Hecate will have things in order in a few seconds. Now who could that be? It's Robert Bixby, world's biggest farmer. Robert is dis- cussing his crops with Dave Leamon, owner and operator of the Bany Seed Company. Dave and his group are com- monly known as Reeder's Seeders. Next to Dave's store is the new D B Gray Elevator moved from Hull to Barry. It s owner, Joyce Patterson, hopes that her old neighbor Terry Williams, owner of Hull Implement Company won't be too discouraged that he's the only business left in Hull. Mother Hecate will switch us to the beauty salon where we can catch up on the latest gossip. Linda Brace, owner and beautician, is chatting with Elizabeth Reeve, first woman to many a computer. When asked by Linda about it, Elizabeth stated, at least you get no back talk. Lynne Smith, mother of two sets of triplets, is talking with Linda Hoyt, secretary for Bruce Cunder, President of the AA. Lynne brought her children with her and at the moment the little darlings are chained in the comer. There is talk that Linda will quit the AA. and go into business with Linda Brace. Rumors are that the Salon will be called Linda and Linda's Lovely Locks . Karla Morrow Bainter and Karen Schien Harris are discussing the new cooking show on TV. Carolyn Fesler is currently starring in her new show The Galloping Carl . Karla wants to know if Karen has the recipe for Carl's famous delicacy, Bottled Belches which consists mostly of onions and Seven-up. Mother Hecate now sees a beautiful horse ranch owned and operated by Tracey Conkright. Up on the hillside with their easels are Jeanne Puskar and Rhonda Little. Tracey has hired these artists to paint pictures of all his horses which only comes to about 5,000. And little but not least is Ronnie Hodson. Ronnie has just graduated with straight A's from Mickey Mouse Uni- versity where he studied to be a bartender. Now we must look for our sponsors, so Mother Hecate if you don't mind. Oh, there they are going into the show. They must be on their way to see that great smash hit Hal and Shari and Rollie and Diane . Have fun and good-bye. Thank you Mother Hecate for the use of your black water. You did a fine job. And so we end the future of the great class of '72.
