J Follow the Tiger . . . . . . Through the 1971 Yr-Rab Stanley Yelton, Editor in Chief Deb by Main, Assistant Editor Mike Bogan, Business Manager Kathy Lumley, Secretary-Treasurer Jo Diane Lee, Advisor Bill Wade and Bill Moyer, Photography The class of '71 made a wise choice when they decided to dedicate this year's annual to Miss Ruby Leeds. Miss Leeds was the principal of the grade school when our class took its first step into school life. She lead us up through grade school and on into Jr. High, where she taught Reading, Writing, English and Art. Miss Leeds led us through 8th grade graduation and on into High School where she continued to teach art to those of us who are artis- tically inclined. Miss Leeds has helped the class of '71 through many hard times as we journeyed through our school days at B.GJd. and B.H.S. It is with great pleasure that we, the class of '71 dedicate the 1971 Yr-rab to Miss Ruby Leeds. 4 Dr. B. J. Rodriguez has served the community for thirteen faithful years. He has helped many people and students to live a better life. Dr. Rod has gained respect from every- one for his continuous service to people who need it the most. The surrounding com- munity is very fortunate to have a fine doctor such as Dr. Rodriguez. We the class of '71 dedicate our annual to Dr. Rodriguez and hope that this dedication can help repay him for his valuable service to us. 5 Superintendent Principal Donald Hoskin Marvin Haley B.S. The gym is nicely decorated for this occasion by the seventh graders. Along with the Valentine dance, the junior high also have a Halloween and May Day dance. Need any help Mickey? 14 The Bombers warm up before the game for the opponent. Coach Kovachevich gives the Bombers some pre- game strategy against the visitors. The game begins and both teams battle for a victory. The season closes for the Jr. High with a second place trophy in the district tournament. The Jr. High cheerleaders who backed the Bombers in play were: Patti Fesler, Lisa Lewton, Sherry Potter, Melissa Tittsworth, Julie Fee, and Stacy Smith. The 48 class members were divided into the rooms of Mrs. Hunter and Mrs. Reinhardt. The things we remember the most were the rest periods and milk breaks. The next year we were under the supervision of Miss Gilbert and Miss Fitch. We began to add to our knowledge of what we had learned the previous year. In the 3rd grade, some of us were once again under Miss Fitch while the others moved on to Mrs. Ward. We remember all the fun things we tried to do and Mrs. Ward's films. By the time we reached 4th grade under Mrs. Jennings and Mrs. Gard, we moved to the second floor. Some of the students were acquainted with the teacher's lounge which Mrs. Jennings used for spankings. We had as our 5th grade teachers, Mrs. Kroencke and Mr. Elliot. Some of us were split into the overflow with the 6th graders. This year we seemed to give the teachers a little trouble or at least that was what the teachers thought. We then moved on to the 6th grade where we had as our teachers, Mrs. Ulm and Mr. Murphy. It seemed by this time we only had a few more years left and then we'd be in high school. When we reached Junior High and the 7th grade, four students joined us from El Dara. Along with these came our first Junior High parties. During the parties, some of the girls planned an attack so they could get the boys to dance. During our year as 7th graders a lot more besides the Junior High parties was in store for us such as music, art, and speech contests. These all kept us all pretty busy. For our class trip that year, we journeyed to Keokuk. The trip included a tour of the dam under the water. Surprisingly enough no one got lost. In the 8th grade, we were once again involved with the Junior High parties and contests. This year our class trip was to Springfield where we toured the capitol building and Lincoln's home. Several of the group decided to go on ahead and needless to say they took the wrong turn but eventually they found their way back. The highlight that year for our class was 8th grade graduation! We will always remember our class as the one who grad- uated with a short recessional! After the exercise we were treated with sodas and ice cream by Miss Leeds and Mr. Wright. Starting our high school education in August 1967, we were all overjoyed with the upcoming events which would take place the next four years. Our Freshman year was filled with the routine of high school life. We all had our own ideas of what to expect but to our amazement it was all quite different. We soon learned that we had to start thinking about money making projects. With the guidance of Miss Martha Danglade we were soon on our way. Although we had a lot on our minds as freshmen, we all seemed to miss the freshman initiation. During our Sophomore year, we were all filled with the challenge of one of our studies, drivers training. While all of us were a little nervous at first little did we realize that Mr. Smith was stocking up on tranquilizers. It wasn't long till we all came through with no casualties and our drivers license. Later in our Sophomore year, a representative from Josten's came, and we ordered our class rings. The room was filled with excitement as well as moans when we realized a little ring could cost so much. Upon entering our Junior year, we will never forget all the corn poppin', candy making, and soda sellen' at our home ballgames. Our first class play, CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN, turned out to be a success. We credit the preparation of this event to our director, Mr. Simpson. We soon learned we had to be making plans for the Prom and before long preparation was under way. All the girls will never forget all those flowers for the flower garden. Although we were running close with Prom preparation, all our work centering around Up, Up, and Away seemed to meet everyone's satisfactions. As our Junior year began to draw to a close, we all appreciated the time and work our sponsors, Miss Hale and Miss Myers, devoted to our class. Our Senior year began with high expectations of the events which would take place in the next few months. We were all determined to help the class reach its goal for our Senior trip while having fun and participating in the class activities. Our Senior year was also filled with everyone making plans for the future. The visits to the guidance was seemed to help those undecided find a goal and try to reach it. College, technical school, jobs, or the service were included in our final plans. Once we set our goal we all had to decide a way to find it. The biggest event of our Senior year is our Senior trip, the goal which so many of us have worked and waited for. With the advice and guidance of our sponsors, Mrs. Lee and Mr. Simpson, we are well on our way. The reward for our hard work and efforts is six days in Michigan, Toronto and Niagra Falls, Canada, and Columbus, Ohio. We are all sure the trip will be filled with treasured moments to be remembered by all. Our Senior year has been filled with activities and making plans but in spite of all these it is a year in which all of us have made it a memorable one. Graduation will come to pass and each one of us will go our separate ways, but we will all carry with us the memories of B.H.S. 56 Class Prophecy The date is June 4, 1981. The gym is decorated the same as it was the evening of May 1, 1970, during the junior-senior prom, entitled UP, UP AND AWAY. The flower garden in the gym can hardly believe that these are the same people who decorated for it eleven years ago. The first two former classmates to arrive at the ten year reunion are Gloria Malone (Post) and Jane Ducey (Brinkman), they are now head nurses at St. Lukes Hospital in St. Louis. Immediately following them are Kathy Lumley (Fee) and Sandra Fesler (Hager) who are now accounting teachers at Gem City College. As the crowd begins to grow, who should enter but Cindy Syrcle (Moody) and Roger Moody who are owners of an auto repair garage called the AUTO REPAIR GARAGE. Handle it gently but firmly. Lead it intelligently but with understanding. Have the courage to stand for your belief and also to change when you see that you have been wrong. We believe that the youth of today is beyond a doubt the most in- telligent, the most informed group of young people that has ever walked across a stage to receive a diploma. However true that is remember that when we cease to learn we become stale stagnate. So continue your education either by attending your choice of college or vocational school or if not in school continue your learning by reading good books and listening to your fellow man, find out what he is thinking, you may not be able to agree with what he is say- ing and thinking but you will at the very least have learned a different way of looking at the matter. Remember also that the world will open its heart to the person who is willing to listen, learn and to work. May God walk hand in hand with you as you work and play in the years to come. Again we would like to say congratulations and remember we have faith in you. Don't disappoint us. NANBAR INCORPORATED FINANCIAL CONSULTANTS 762 Bainbridge Street, P.O.
