THE HUB Vol. 10 No. 9 BARRY, ILLINOIS May 1961 An Editorial: DO IT YOURSELF If America is to fulfill its destiny, the words of the people, for the people, and by the people must apply to many things: TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF: With the American theory that every man is capable of governing himself, he must be a re- sponsible man able to make his own way in life. Everyone must be able to solve his own problems and help others solve theirs. THINK FOR YOURSELF: Don't catch opinions as you catch cold. Be your own master mind. This is sound educa- tional philosophy. No man's opinion is better than his information. Develop the habit of learn- ing the facts before you make the decision. PRINCIPALS CORNER FAREWELL to the Class of 1961 To the Class of 1961: Soon you will be leaving Barry High School where you have spent half of the 1440 days in the last four years. INVEST FOR YOURSELF: Invest regularly every month. Everyone should take his share of the return. Plan early to own your own home-----insurance and bank savings for emergencies. Live within your means by budgeting your income. PLAN FOR YOURSELF: Have a life plan. It will have many parts: your home and family, religion, and recrea- tional plans, vocational plans (con't on page 4) Soon it won't be mom's responsibility to get you up and to school on time—dad's not going to foot the bills, and your teachers aren't going to make your assignments for you. A good many of these things you are going to have to do for yourself. Each of you is going to have his own small Do It Yourself Program . We at your Alma Mater trust that we have supplied you with the necessary education to prepare you for the (con't on page 6) 3
