Our class officers were: President--Bill Mcvay Secretary--Margaret Vice President--John Gieker Churchill Treasurer--Eileen Fesler From this stage we go into the sophomore class of 1958. Our class was decreased to 42. Our advisor was Miss Alice Lease. We celebrated our good work for that year by a picnic to South Park,'Quincy. Our Officers for that year were: President--Marcella Ursery Secretary--Robert Vice President--John Gieker Boyd ' Treasurer-fEi1een Fesler . 'Our class of 1959 was advised by Miss Virginia Vale, who successfully planned and carried out a Junior and Senior trip to St, Louis. I F' SOPHOI ORB CLASS HISTORY The sophomores of B C H S entered into the School of Knowledgeu in September 4, 1939 as freshmen. As usual we were regarded as Wgreen freshmenn by the upper classmen. The first job that confronted the under classmenn as we were called, was to select class officers for the year 1939 00 They were president, Victor Funk, vice president, Bette Witty, secretary, Betty Bloyd The treasurer, Dorothy Stearns, was selected by the faculty The class was adequately represented in all clubs and organ'za1'ens. At the end of the freshman year and after a glorious vacation, the old students, with a few exceptions, returned to take up the job of passing the sophomore year However, along with the old students came some new pupils be cause Barry High School had been transformed into Barry Com unity High School The officers were again chosen with Bonnie Hoskins as president, Ruby Jean Charlesworth as vice president, Grace Began as secretar Charles Sykes as treasurer was chosen by h faculty The faculty changed somewhat between the time we were freshmen and when we became seeho mores. The class members going on a marsh allow freshies were wandering CQHOSC 'got acquaintedn by and weiner roast out to Kuntz's spring on Friday, September 13. Mr. Edlin and Mr. Wolf, the class sponsors, were chaperone. The election of class officers was held in the mathematics room on September 18. The outcome was as follows: President, Dick Garner, Vice-President, Ramona Hartg Secretary, Bob Shinn. Charles Johnson was appointed treasurer by the facnlty. ' Of 1 the fift'-q'Lr students, five dropped out for one ressq' : another. They were Florine Blair, Nva Deverger, Gleah Bowen, William A. Pryor, and Neysa Coleman. Later in the year Jean Kelso came to our class from Pleasant Hill. The class was well represented in school clubs and organizations. Letha Gallaher was chosen cheer leader, and Jean Kelso and Donald Fee were the candidates for the carnival queen and king.. All in all, it has been a very happy and, we hope, prosperous year, and we are looking forward to being wise sophomores next year. Substituting for McVay in the 100 yd, dash was Pryor and Krigbaum and in the 220 yd. dash Krig- if baum and Garner, In the other track events were Hull and Hatter for the 440, Peterson and Hurt for the BBQ, and Wagy and Carroll in the mile run, In the field events came Pryor for broad jump, Geiker for high jump, Krigbaum throwing the discus, and Pryor and Yolten for the shot put. This year the band has thirty-five members, and is under the capable leader-ship of Mr. Kenneth Wolf. New uniforms were purchased th fall, so our band has made a striking appearance at its concerts. ' ' On October 3O,l94O, they went to Hannibal fo the opening of the free Mark Twain bridge. Durin the local Fall Festival the band gave two concert each day. At all the home basketball and a few baseball games the band adde d color and enjoyment Barry was represented by their band in the contest on March 28. The numbers were nmetropolis Overturen, UZanthian 0verture,U and a selected march. They received a second rating. Here's wishing tho band the best of success in the future years of B.C.H.S.!
