OPERATION DOUBLE EAGLE, the largest amphibious landing since the lnchon landings in .X Korea, was directed against a hard core Viet Cong stronghold not far from Danang. Although X Initial resistance -was slight, Marine units gradually forced increasing contact with the enemy. ff X BARRY was called upon to provide gunfire support for Marine movements during daylight hours if f Q . The punks were es , , A tablished into an infiltratefexfiltrate patrol as an extension of friendly front lines. . 5 M On 5 February BARRY was reluctantly detached to support the U.S. Army s famed First Cav- L alry - THE FIGHTING FIRST - in OPERATION MASI-IER and WHITE WING farther south. With this mission the BARRY had fired and operated in all four Corps areas of Vietnam T and had participated in two of the biggest offensives of the Vietnam conflict to date.
