'IN OUR COUNTRY AND IN OUR TIMES NO MAN IS WORTHY THE HON- ORED NAME OF STATES- MAN WHO DOES NOT INCLUDE THE HIGHEST PRACTICABLE EDUCA- TION OF THE PEOPLE IN ALL HIS PLANS OF AD- MINISTRATION. Horace Morm. BAHIAN All high school students look forward with great an- ' ticipation to the issuance of the annual year book. There is always a certain amount of excitement connected with each student's desire to see how his picture looks and to read about his achievements in the various phases of the curriculum. However, there should be an even greater sig- nificance connected to the excitement, and that is the fact that the annual portrays another year of educational de- velopment and growth to all the students of the high school. As we look at the pictures and read the articles printed herein, we should not only thrill at the gayety and fun' the various activities have brought to our student body, but we should also respect the purpose and educational value these activities have given our students. Let us not forget the actual production of the year book. The staff members and the advisor have devoted many long hours of work in'the many areas that are neces- sary to bring the entire material into this book we call the Bahian. As in the past, this book reflects much serious thinking, many hours of work, and a lot of leadership on the part of our annual staff and the advisor. lt is my hope that this year's Bahian will make you proud of our achievements and that it will serve as a lasting memento of the achievements of Barron High School for the year i954-55. R. R. Rhode, Superintendent MR. R. R. RHODE RUTH FORRY Office Secretary QU,- Superintendent Our Principal MR. JOHN E, HQAR TO THE SENIORS The mill of life grinds on-the time has come for you to leave the sheltered walls of high school, and enter into the grim realities of adult life. As you leave high school an era in your lives ends, and the friendships and associations with teachers and students that have been happy and carefree will be but memories. Many of these associations and friendships, however, have left imprints upon you that are certain to affect you through-out your lives. You will find in life, as in high school, that you reap what you sow, and that life is what you make it. You will also find in society that there are as many responsibilities to assume as there are benefits to receive. The joys and the sorrows you encounter as you grow older will be largely a result of your own efforts and actions. To be real, sincere, and for the right, will be your biggest job. During these four years that we have been closely associ- ated in and out of classes, l have cudgeled you and reprimanded you, and also attempted to counsel and assist you. These years have been happy ones. As the years go by, l shall have the same attitude toward you. As each school year ends, l always have 0 feeling of re- gret because the seniors are leaving. But such is life. My best and most sincere wish for you is happiness. John E. Hoar, Principal 4 DEDICATION Mr Arthur H Felien began teaching at Barron in l925. Since that time hundreds of students d l ' 'th admiration have gone through this classes and all with a feeling of admiration and grotitu e. t is wi k d nd knowledge and in gratitude for his diligence and patience that we dedicate the for his in ness a I l955 Bahian to him. Through the efforts of the Barron Kiwanis Club, and under their sponsorship, the Key Club was estab- lished in December, 1954. The club's membership al- location of 40 boys - 'I6 seniors, 16 juniors, and 8 sophomores, was soon filled. Under the inspiration and direction of Mr. Rhode and Mr. Trotalli, club advisor, the club proceeded to organize. Club president, Bill Kos- er, vice president, Jerry Smith, secretory: Peter Carr, treasurer, Charles Norelius, and Van Dowd as representa- tive of the senior members: Curtis Larson, junior rep- resentative, and David Krahenbuhl as sophomore rep- resentative were elected. These seven officers, plus the advisors, make up the executive board. Committees, such as the house committee, program, and project committees were appointed to allow the club to func- tion smoothly. The clubs Iuncheon meetings were held every Tuesday noon. Projects which the new club cor- ried through included advertising campaigns supporting safe-driving day, the March of Dimes, a T.V. set for the Rest Home, and Brotherhood Week. The Donkey Basketball game and the cor wash brought enough revenue into the treasury to make the club seIf-sup- porting. The officers-elect for the 55-56 school year include Jerry Smith, president, Dave Krahenbuhl, vice president: Charles Norelius, secretary, and Curtis Lar- son, treasurer. The Student Council of B.H.S., during the past year hos participated in many activities. Some of the things that the governing body has done under the direction of Van Dowd, president, Robert Kursch- ner, vice president: Olive Bjugstod, secretary, and Phyllis Chermock, treasurer, have been sponsoring the Thursday night homecoming activities and presenting the program for the Christmas party. The Student Council made a real effort to change the State Compulsory Physical Education Law. Letters were written to the representatives of our district in the state legislature and to the schools in this area, however, no action was taken. l CAMERA CLUB MEMBERS A. Johnson, D. Kuehndorf, J. J K fe- The pep club, which is a club to help support the athletic activities at Barron High, is composed of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. To get into this club there are certain requirements to per- form. Some of these requirements are: to make posters for the football and basketball games, put on skits for pep assemblies, and help decorate for school dances that are sponsored by the pep club. Once you're in you have to help in every way possible to help promote progress for the pep club and to support the football and basketball teams. If the student does not complete these require- ments, he is automatically dropped from the club. il- PEP CLUB The senior members of the Pep Club are, from left to right: Row 'l. C. Hoff, P. Q , Q I 1954 proved to be a very successful year for the Barron Bears football squad. They won five games, tied one, and lost two. They finished second in the con- ference standings and established a new school record. It was the highest any Barron football team had finished in 34 years of that sport. Much of the success of the Barron football team dulylgoes to Mr. Trotalli, the new head football coach. Under his expert guidance the Bears became one of the best teams in the conference. 1 ,1- . fx A -Q 7212 ' Eg fi '-'a at . The climax of the football season came when the Bears defeated their arch rivals, the Rice Lake Warriors, 25 to 6 in the annual Homecoming Game. The Barron-Bloomer tilt proved to be an anticlimax of the year when the two teams met for the Heart of the North championship. The Bears drew first blood as they forged ahead in the first quarter 6 to 0. Bloomer's speed proved to be too much for the Bears in the sec- ond half as they scored repeatedly for a 26 to 6 win.
