The first big day in Barron High for the grads of 1952 was initiation on November 5, 1948, followed by a mixer party that night. The Sno-Ball with Gladys Barrett reigning as queen and David Ellefson as king, was the main event of our Sophomore year. Then we come to our junior year with the drama, Wings of the Morning, our class play, as one of the top happenings of the year. The other being the Prom, with Lea Halvorson and joan Sandve reigning. To bring to a close the four years, we have chosen the motto: The Universe Changesg But Our Lives Are What Our Thoughts Make It. Silver and Aqua were chosen as the class colorsg the flower, Pink Carnation. The class officers were: Treasurer, Audrey Burowg President, Eleanor Olsong Vice-President, Douglas Ritchieg and Secretary, Marlene johnson. I Pictured abovej. Our inexperience and Amery's offensive single wing attack were the main factors for Barron's defeat. BARRON 6-SPOONER 7 Our first conference game of the season was played at the new Memorial Field. The Railroaders scored on a ten-yard pass and added the extra point that proved to be the winning factor in the second period. Roger Hunt plowed over in the third stanza for the Bears, but he was unable to gain sufficient ground for the extra point. BARRON 0-MEDFORD 19 Glen Derouin, former Barron coach, brought his scrappy grid team to Barron and walked away with an easy victory. Jim Brost scored all three touchdowns, plus the extra point for Medford. BARRON 6-BLOOMER 46 The Blackhawks played host to the Barron eleven and had little trouble defeating us, to hold their top position in the conference. Roger Hunt recovered a fumble in the end zone for the Bears' only score. BARRON 0-HAYWARD 20 Hayward, playing a brilliant defensive game, handed the Bears their fifth defeat of the season when they scored three times in the first half. The second half was an even game with neither team scoring. BARRON 0-CUMBERLAN D 35 Buck Di Salvo, the main factor in Cumberland's rout of the Bears, time and time again plunged the line for decisive gains. The Beavers' well-rounded attack and sharp defense proved to be too much for the Bears. BARRON 20-LADYSMITH 8 Led by halfback Vic Schleiss, Barron trounced Ladysmith, 20-8 in the Homecoming tilt for our first victory of the season. The Lumberjacks secured an early 2-0 lead in the first period, but Schleiss broke loose minutes later and raced 85 yards for a TD, with Roger Hunt converting. Before the half ended, Schleiss again romped into the end zone and Hunt again split the uprights, making it 14-2. Each team tallied once in the last half, the Bears on a 30-yard, Hunt to David Ellefson pass. BARRON 24-RICE LAKE 12 Barron ended the 1951 season with a 24-12 triumph over Rice Ifake, the Bears' first in 25 years! After trail- ing 6-0, Dean McManus passed 15 yards to Roger Hunt, making it 6-6 as the half ended. Barron took the lead in the third period, as McManus intercepted and drove 35 yards, making it 12-6, with the Bears. never again being topped. To add to the Warriors' humiliation, Barron pulled the Statue of l..iberty play twice in succession, with David Ellefson scoring on the second attempt. Schleiss went over for the final TD. Barron fans went mad as the final horn sounded, with the Bears carrying Coach Ed Wfarwick off the field on their shoulders. I - S, rw ,. 'f-ff, an 95. We wonder if we have accepted your offer of happiness and success, or have rejected them, not understanding their worth. Some will walk out proudly, their knowledge bidding success to accept them in her exclusive domain, but the rest must look back. They will vainly try to capture what will never again be offered. Because now they must fight for knowledge, and search for happiness. We bid you who will still be here to take what you can of the joys of these precious years which we are leaving behind, not forgetting to give of your talents as well as accepting what others offer. Then you will be prepared to walk down the time worn path of life which leads to happiness and success. Senior Class. ADVERTISERS I I r y J HEATH BANK 'I X .I N Pl Q X.
