Shouldering the additional burden and assuming an increasing role in the school administration are the vice-principals. Each one supervises a certain phase of the work, thus dividing the tremendous task and assuring more efficient administration in all areas. The V.P.s ate an essential aid to the principal, assisting her with her many duties as well as fulfilling their own jobs in the most efficient way possible. Victoria Manfro H 21 The Essential Organizers The secretaries in the main office and guidance office have jobs that only skilled organizers can handle. Their jobs include doing all the correspondence, school records, clerical duties, and of course answering the numerous phone calls that the school receives everyday. The honors Intergrated Science program offers a two year unified study of Chemistry and Physics with a unique team teaching approach. This is one of the vital issues our social studies classes consider each day. Students learn to think, to interpret, and to apply knowledge to the solution of everyday human problems. The curriculum offers Law in Action, Psychology, Sociology, and Labor Studies to perpare students to be aware as citizens and to be more active. Chairman Louis Maralakos 32 Patrick Washam Social Studies John Cascella James Catullo William Hewson Michele Corbo Joy Grove Donna Posteraro Matthew Rivers Solomon Johnson Physical Education 4+ Ralph Salzano Jetta Sedicino Harry Snyder Margaret Said Physical fitness seems to be an increasing concern in America today. Our Physical Education Department offers courses and activities that motivate Barringer students to pursue a higher degree of fitness. Through sports such as Volleyball, Basketball, and track, the participants develop their skill and bodies. Aparatus techniques and exercise routines are employed to maintain strength, improve coordination, and encourage social interaction. The department also offers a variety of health education courses to prepare the student for a stable, rewarding, family and community life. Chairman-Frank Ver-ducci Frank Verducci Regina Wright Foreign Language The study of modern foreign languages is vital to communication in a shrinking world. At Barringer the Foreign Language Department aids the student in the progressive ability to speak, read, express, and ultimately to comprehend and enjoy a second language. The geographical, political, and cultral aspects of the foreign nation are studied as well as its contributions to Western civilization. Chairman: Dr. John Gianini Orfeo Bellomo George Brownlee Lawrence Delvisco 36 Margarita Losado Josephine Macchia Virginia Suckow Assunta Violante Media Center Cynthia Salzano A multi-media center, a study hall, a meeting place, an instructional area, the Barringer library has become all of these. Through systematic selection of books, pamphlets, records and magazines the librarians have accumalat-ed collections of materials most beneficial to students interested in programs of study. Though our library staff is small, considering the size of the total area, they are accomplished individuals. Home Economics Dorothea Chavis Jerlean Daniels MaryLou Flaherty Maryjean Meravi Lois Porter Barbara Saunders To become successful employees, homemakers, and parents and to learn techniques in consumer awareness, Barringer students can elect a course in Home Economics. Children and youth in need of special education are not limited to specific categories. Rather, they include all those who require unusual curricular or instructional adjustment throughout their school career or some significant portion of it. Barringer's special education is built on the concept of understanding unusual differences among the school-age population and meeting individual needs. 42 Medical Staff Dr. Sisina Greco Alonzo Reynolds Frances Forsythe Linda Kocian Dr. Edward Szelwa In an emergency when first aid is required, Barringer nurses are always there when you need them. The Medical Staff administer many other services also: checking students periodically for illness, testing for vision and hearing problems, and keeping cumulative health records of the student body. By Lawrence Walsh Do You Remember . . . Do you remember the times your head started to resolve, because of the one problem you could not solve. Do you remember going from day to day and all the new friends you made along the way. Do you remember studying so hard hoping you would receive a good report card. All of these may have seemed to be a bore but it all paid off on June 21, 1934. By Pamela Rena Penn School Memories Barringer High School, the school we love. We ll treasure you always, in our hearts. Cause graduation is here, its time to lead our lives. We ll forget the bad days, and remember the good times. We ll say good-by to our teachers, also to our friends. Praying that tomorrow, we see each other again. We honor you Barringer, knowing times were tough. We'll remember you always, and we ll be in touch. Angel Luis Velez Never Again Never again shall we pass this way. So let's enjoy each hour, each day. Facing life and being unafraid, Treasuring the memory of great friends we've made. Never again to meet face to face. In the old accustomed place. Never to see that tender smile. Helping to make life worth while. Never again permitted to share. Such precious moments all so rare. Never again to do a good deed. For someone who was greatly in need. Never to see the glorious dawn. Heralding the coming of the beautiful morn. Never to sit and watch the setting sun, After the day's work has been done. So let us do the best we can, Dealing honestly with our fellowman. Casting evil deeds aside. Letting love in our hearts abide. Keep doing our good deeds each day. Storing treasure in heaven while we may. To serve us in good stead on judgement day. For never again shall we pass this way. Lawrence Welsh Hard times In times of Sorrow When everything goes wrong Lift up your head and sing a song A song of love in all its splendor To make your life so sweet and tender. I am me Do not try to change me, because I will always be me. Do not criticize me, only accept me for being me.' Do not doubt me, just believe in me. No matter what you say or what you do I will always be me! By Pamela Rena Penn In times of rejection When no one cares Seek a friend, who’s always there A friend to know and love so dear Because such a friend is there to share Your ups and downs and hidden years So in time of hopelessness When the whole world turns its back on you Don't despair, or be blue Because someone is there to help you through By Lawrence Walsh Autographs 185 Junior Class Disco The graduating class of 1985 sponsored a Disco at the Newark YMCA on Fri. Wash am Neil Williamson THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA This is to certify that the accompanying flag was flown over the United States Capitol on June 30, 1983, at the request of the Honorable Peter W. Rodino, Jr., Member of Congress. This flag was flown for the Barringer High School. The Barriuger Flag Many Newark residents do not know the historical significance of our school. Barringer High School, once called Newark High was the first secondary school established in New Jersey and the third high school in the country. To high light our schools tradition. Vice Principal Mr. DiChiara, and our principal Mrs. Bagby, made an effort to secure a significant symbol that we as students, faculty, and alumni could be proud of. Therefore Mr. DiChiara procured a flag that, thanks to the assistance of Congressman Peter Rodino, was flown over the united States Capitol on June 30, 1983 and that now waves in the air above the Big Blue. What other memorable symbol would best epitomize the success of a school so deep in everlasting tradition? 194 George M. White.
