UM oSMoot nwnumiiuiAk 00 Si'S rrlorifcom not FRESHMAN YEAR In we came, all 800 of us, we were making a whole new beginning as Barringerites. The first few days were hectic as we tried to adjust to high school life. The upperclassmen just added to our confusion with their tricks and pranks and offered us no assistance. However it was not long before we figured out how to follow the hall numbers and after memorizing our schedules we were able to find all our classrooms, even if we got there 15 minutes late. Our first introduction to school activities was a pep rally. After being pushed and shoved we finally found seats and got settled. The band came into the gym first followed by the twirlers and cheerleaders and then our football team was introduced. The school spirit spread among us and we felt like we were a part of the school. In the months to follow we began to learn and experience many tilings. By the middle of the year we felt we were really ”IN . Already we began laughing at some of the mistakes we made in the first few weeks of school. One of the most oblivious things was our dress style. We all came into school wearing sneakers and sweat socks. How were we suppose to know that the apache, Scarlet O'Hara, and Harlow look were just a few of the in styles of dress. Time passes quickly and soon we took our final exams. Only then did we realize that come September we would be big time sophomores. With this thought in mind we happily set off for our summer vacations. SOPHOMORE YEAR September came and this year we entered the school with a new feeling of pride. We were sophisticated sophomores and thought we knew everything there was to know. Now we could look down our noses at the dumb freshmen and had only two grades to look up to and admire. We were definitely with it as far as fashion goes. Bell bottom pants, bell sieves, mini's and maxi's were part of our dress. Bench warmers were the outer garment to wear to football games. The year was shortened by a teachers strike. When we got back to school we were too busy having fun and fooling people with our devilish pranks that we did not notice how fast time was passing. We left school for vacation knowing that in September we would have a new responsibility as upperclassmen. JUNIOR YEAR This year we found ourselves more serious than we were in previous years. We settled down and gave more thought to our school work. We were next in line and would soon be the leaders of the school. We would be the ones to set a good example to the underclassmen. This year hair” was the in thing. Hair was worn in many styles such as braids, shags, afro’s or just long and straight. Fashions also changed. Knee length tie up boots were worn. Wearing hot pants also became popular and jeans were worn by both sexes. There were many new dances out such as the Jersey Slide , Funky Chicken , and the Breakdown . The Junior Dance was successful and a prize was given to the person wearing the hottest hot pants. In February there was a teachers strike which kept us out of school for two months. When we finally returned to school we began to make plans for our last year at Barringer. Soon June came and we all looked forward to a peaceful vacation. SENIOR YEAR We anxiously started this year ready to tackle any problems that may arise. With Pete Shaw as president and Miss Murphy and Mr. Ciccolini as advisors we were determined to make this year the best year B.H.S. ever had. Problems did arise such as the date of the prom and where graduation was to be held but everything was worked out. Senior year was a busy year for most people. College applications had to be sent out, senior dues had to be paid and there were meetings to attend. Regardless of all the rushing around there was a happy atmosphere surrounding seniors. The yearbook was also a big success. It's creative originality surprised many seniors. How could it go wrong with Debi Sarno as editor-in-chief and Mr. Di Gerlando and Mr. Lowy as advisers. Our football team had a successful year too. It had a perfect undefeated record and took the title of City Champs . As June approached we realized that Barringer has been like a second home to us. All our high school days, from frightened freshmen days, to sophisticated sophomore days, to jubilant junior days and finally to swinging senior days had been centered around Barringer and its activities. Although we were all anxious to graduate we couldn’t decide whether to rejoice or cry for we realized that we would surely miss our other home . But we knew we had to use what we had learned here and apply it to the outside world. So with this in mind, we the class of 72', came in like cubs and left like Big Bears. 4 ft i • . .
