JIM SALVATO: To direct the most successful Broadway musical hy 1984! REGGIE TURNER: To star in that musical! PAT D’ALESSIO: To educate children who know and know not that they know to become wise enough to be followed. LARRY BOW'E: To take Sancho Panza’s place! Mrs. “DULCINEA” Manfro: To lx the embodiment of the Impossible Dream.” Jim Salvato — Kditor-in-('hief Mn Victoria Manfro and Yearbook Staff 46 Yearbook Pat D'Alessio Senior and Business Kditor Reggie Turner Activities Kditor ENVOY When we first undertook the task of writing the 1968 ATHENAEUM, we had considerable difficulty selecting a theme. We searched for a theme which would tell the story of our endeavors in high school and our hopes for the future. We found that honorable men of vision had a dream in which they believed — a dream they sought, throughout their lives, to make a reality, undaunted by disappointments and setbacks. The example set by such men taught us the lesson that a worthy dream appears to direct a human being toward a meaningful and rewarding life. What better wav for man to leave his signature on the sands of time! Thus The Impossible Dream t ecame the message. Although we realize that we cannot see the pattern of the future, we can see the duties that lie at hand and the value of hard and self-denying work in the present. We too. in our day, by what we do. can help to shape the course of history. If we are motivated by this conviction. conceivably we can help bring about tin- kind of world in which a man is judged by the content of his character. We face the future determined to try. We believe that the word impossible' is only in the dictionary of fools. When Death strikes down the innocent and young, for every fragile form from which he lets the panting spirit free, a hundred virtues rise, in shapes of mercy, charity, and love, to walk the world, and bless it. Dickens FRANK DEL MAURO I threw a rose on a grave. Said a prayer for his soul. Scenes of past, and of now. A warm thought. A cold chill. All is still. lie is gone. Zoya ANGELA RUSSO Loveliest of lovely things are they On earth that soonest pass away. The rose that lives its little hour Is prized beyond the sculptured flower. Bryant MICHAEL MASI “ Whom the gods love die young, was said of yore, And many deaths do they escape by this: The death of friends, and that which slays even more.
