Saluted Tteev The State of New Jersey is celebrating its three hundredth anniversary of the founding of this state by Lord John Berkeley and Sir George Carteret in 1664. The January Class of 1964 is proud to salute our Garden State in this edition of the Athenaeum. We are particularly pleased to join in this statewide celebration, because Barringer High School has played such a significant role in the history of this state. For. Barringer was the first public high school in the state, and third in the nation to be established. Many of our alumni have added luster to the accomplishments of the state. We are happy to live in New Jersey. We find its climate varied, bracing, and invigorating. The countryside is arresting and always attractive. New Jersey has everything— mountains, valleys, low lands, marshes, and a fabulous shoreline Fresh water and salt water are never far away. The New Jersey beaches are the world's finest. And most Jersey natives are beachcomers at heart. The sunsets off the coast are magnificent New Jersey is a prosperous state with an expanding and diverse economy. Industry, farming, resorts, and commerce provide ample employment and wealth opportunities This state boasts of an excellent school system, and its colleges are illustrious. Its people are politically mature, independent, and persistently liberal. New Jersey is in the forefront of the progressive states in the Union New Jersey is a vital and dynamic state that is quickly girding itself for the growing pains of the next 300 years. New Jerseyans sun and swim in the glorious surf of Asbury Park.
