A QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE Barringer High School has always held an unique position in this city's educational system. It is the third oldest high school in the nation, and it has maintained a tradition of academic excellence. The vast number of alumni throughout New Jersey regard Barringer with reverence and enthusiastic concern. We are most fortunate to have as our administrators. Mr. William R. Cain, principal, and Mr. David E. Blank, the newly appointed vice principal, who are sincerely and earnestly endeavoring to emulate the effectiveness and accomplishments of such outstanding predecessors as Mr. William N. Barringer. Dr. Wayland E. Stearns. Dr. Roger B Saylor, and Mr. Ephraim Eisenberg. Many of the recently acclaimed innovations in education have long been part of the Barringer program of studies. This is the Barringer formula for academic success: discipline to develop a wholesome character and a proper learning atmosphere. Effective citizenship and a respect for American ideals are emphasized. Warmth and a personal awareness of the welfare of the individual student tend to inspire each student to do his best. Encouragement of a community-wide interest makes the school the focal point of the North Ward area. Insistence upon the high academic standards, common sense experimentation and innovations, and faculty teamwork have been invaluable in establishing the highest staff esprit de corps in the city system. Barringer's learning program includes a dynamic and vigorous sports and activity program. Community resources and field trips are utilized to raise the intellectual sights of the students. The administration, faculty, and parents are always striving to have the City of Newark give its full support for first class education. These are the reasons why the students and faculty are proud to be a part of the Big Blue family!
