the “great experiment in living democracy. This concept of the way free men should and must live has evolved through much torment, strife, and struggle. The ideals of freedom and democracy have been bought with American blood. There are many memorial tablets in our school that attest to this fact. This, then is our most cherished part of our inheritance. Our freedoms are our proudest achievements As the fly leaf at the back of the Athenaeum. the editors deliberately selected a photographic reminder of the bombing of Pearl Harbor as a warning that Americans must be alert, vigilant, and willing to make sacrifices to preserve our dearly and bitterly won AMERICAN HERITAGE. The struggle today against us is diabolically subtle and sophisticated. It will be the task of the future for Americans to continue to rise to the requirements and duties of this complex challenge and meet it successfully. For. we are essentially the last defenders of freedom and democracy in the world . . . the last hope of mankind

IS Alt RINGER’S HALL OF FAME 1SH Our Nominee MRS. AUGUSTA B. FREY. R.N. IMS graduating '''M be Mrs. Augusta b. Frey. We deem her worthy of this honor of her unwavering dedication and service to the students and faculty of Barringer. Her responses in countless situations are a tribute to the traditions and ethics of her noble profession In our estimation, no one is more befitting the title of Registered Nurse than our Mrs. Frey. She never failed to live up to the responsibilities and ideals of service established by her profession. Her treatment consisted of an adept combination of sound medical advice. a witty sense of humor, and plenty of human warmth Wisely knowing the interrac-tion of physical and emotio nal factors in causing illness. Miss Frey never neglected the emotional health of students.? who seeked medical advice. We are grateful to Mrs. Augusta Frey for being an efficient and competent nurse, but most important of all wa wish to express our appreciation for being a good friend to us. In a world were there is little unselfish love, service to humanity and few true friends, we have learned to treasure such devoted individuals as you. Mrs Augusta B Frey. R N c
