In Memory of Our Beloved Principal and Friend Every so often, a qrcat and distinguished educator appear on the scene to give the guidance and leadership necessary tor successful education. This page is dedicated by the January Class of 1958 to the memory of just such a man -our late and beloved principal and friend. Or. Roger B. Saylor. Through his thirty-nine years of devoted service to Barringer High School as a teacher, chairman of the science department and then as principal. Dr. Saylor had become synonymous With the growth and achievements of Barringer High School. This page depicts, we feel, the dynamic and very human personality of Dr. Saylor. While he was a man | high ideals and demanded the best from his students. D . Saylor was a man of great understanding, compassion.1 and sympathy tor the frailties and short comings ot hit fellow human beings. Dr. Saylor was an educator, who long before the shock of Sputnik, recognised that the power of this nation depended upon the technical skills and know how of its people. Therefore, he constantly stressed the value of scholarship, encouraged academic achievement, and sound character training for effective citisenship. Dr. Saylor always urged his faculty to teach above the level of their students so that we would be challenged to extend Our efforts beyond our imagined limitations. Our former principal was always an approachable and friendly man. whose office door was always open to those of us with small and big problems. He was a shirt sleeved principal who worked long and arduously to make Barringer the best possible school. Dr. Saylor often remarked that he had great faith in the young people of America. We will do our best to live up to his faith and trust in us.
