We, who have lived through this war, want no more of it. There is no room for the demoralizing ravages of warfare in the busy and progressive future toward which we plan with earnest intent. We are about to enter a changed world bright with promise. It is natural that we pause to anicipate and remin- isce. The war years hung heavily over our youthful heads, like a black storm- cloud, dreary, threatening, ominous, cheerless. It was difficult for us to do our daily school work properly as students, so menacing and enormous were the war struggles on the far-flung battlefronts all over the world, and so de- manding the war efforts on our homefront. But we now believe that the silver lining to that dark cloud is the thrilling prospect of a united world. A more wholesome future looms hopefully for our generation, thank God. What was lacking in the past we must find and apply so that peaceful progress will be experienced and shared by all members of the great human family all over the earth. We, of the Class of June 1946, are resolved that we will not fail to meet the magnificient challenge of the tasks and responsibilities we now face. We earnestly dedicate this book and ourselves to the fulfillment of a permanent peace on earth; and to goodwill and understanding among all peoples who dwell on earth. The earth is the home of mankind. Let it not be said that we, in the prime of our youth, were in any way unworthy of that privilege and blessing. We belive in live and let live. So we pledge ourselves, here and now, to the making of a better world. ... to- the. jjGA. jjutuAe, tuf, n dasi TT WAS on September 23, 1938 that a giant 1 tube, pneumatically sealed, was buried fifty feet underground to mark the close of the World's Fair held in New York City. Many articles, characteristic of current American life and time, were put into this archaeological capsule so constructed that it is claimed to be capable of surviving at least 5000 years. One item is a key to our language; another the Bible; another a slide rule. The idea appealed to us so strongly that we have made a tube of our own and buried it deep in the heart of our homeland. In it we have packed things very meaningful to us. We anticipate that many a future Barringerite browsing in the Acropolis files will come across this historic relic, to smile over it appreciatively We cannot imagine that these things, so familiar in our day could ever become matters of mystery as time widens the distance between the present and the future. cbxiJMfeleM. in the couAAe time YOURS is the age-old task. Father Time, of turning the hour-glass to mark the ceaseless motion of passing events We, of the Class of June, 1946, expect many changes in our lives We are confident that the transformations we ourselves make will be good ones. We anticipate spectacular progress. We hope for phenomenal improvements in medicine, engineering, economics, and human relationships We want to be instrumental in the building of a united world, free from fear, free from want, free to live worthily, as people should. There is much work to be done We realize that the world is far from those goals. But bear in mind, Father Time, that though the persistent hours pass and change, the clock itself is changeless Time runs on and on and on. There are certain things on which we must depend to build decent progress and a decent world. These things, Father Time, must be changeless. Seal each in an hour-glass. Guard them from change for our sake They mean much to us. They are basic in the American way of life Lead on, Father Time. We follow you, confident that you will keep faith with us. Hav- ing friends is an important and inspi- rational part of normal living. Our heartiest congratulations to the Graduates. . . . ouA GlyntfucA CARL MILLER—Center ANDY PECORA—Guard Carl earned hi versify letter in 1945 and i recognized a the sparkplug and backbone of the Blue quintet Hu persistence and deter- mination make him an outstanding player. His remarkable way of pass- ing will long be remembered. Andy was one of the most spin- ter and energetic players on the Blue squad in 1945. His naturally fine ability in all phases of basket- ball aided the Barringer cause throughout the season. Pecora is also a State Boxing Champion in the 112 pound class. THE 1945-46 sport season presented Barringer a City-Championship foot- ball team and a National Championship fencing team However, too many pupils and faculty alike, these events were secondary, for 1945 brought bas- ketball back to Barringer after an absence of twenty seven years. It was through the eternal insistence of the pupils and the helpful leader- ship of a faculty member that this long awaited event was made possible. Mr. Bruder, who has been one of basketball for Barringer staunchest supporters, was naturally appointed faculty adviser. It was through him that Mr. Joseph Nerenberg, a star in his own right and a well-known basketball authority in these parts, was signed to coach our yearling. After long weeks of practice the team was molded into a working organ- ization ready to take on all comers. Being comprised of mostly juniors and sophomores, the whole team is expected back next year. The experience gained this season will be invaluable to the Big Blue when they take the court in 1946 for a scheduled season of competition. The entire school and alumni wish Mr. Nerenberg and Barringer basket- ball all the luck in the world for 1946 MR JOSEPH NERENBERG—Coach Mr. Nerenberg led the first bas- ketball team that Barrmger has had •n twenty seven years. He brought to Barrmger a spirit and determina- tion that will live forever. We know Mr. Nerenberg will do his utmost to reinstate Barrmger as a strong power on the basketball court. MR. R JOSEPH BRUDER— Faculty Adviser It was mainly through Mr. Bruder that the return of basketball to Barringer was mado possible. His fme spirit and helpful leadership showed the way back to the court for a Barrmger team that had been missing from the picture for twenty seven years. Every true Barnnger- ite truly thanks him. . . . 04i i (yUdi vo+t lie io L ATHILSTAN Baby NELSON—Guard AHithUn wm Captain of the 1945 •quad. His services wcro immeasurable at his All-State and All-County rating «ill show. Ho received hit major B in 1944 and received his All-State wreathed 8 In 1945 along with his gold football for the City- Championship team. CARMINE D'ALESSIO—tnd This was Carmine's first year as a ver- sify man but he proved he has the stuff it takes. He saw to much action even as a second team man that he wet well able to win his gold ’ootball and a major B for his services in 1945. A ‘ V. -« MARC i BRONCO' ANGELILLO—Tackle Marc's 200 pounds hat been anchored around the left tide of the line for two seasons now, 1944 and 1945. Bronco hat received hit major B both seasons and was awarded his gold football for service on the City-Championship team. FRANCIS i FRANK ROSSI—Tackle Frank hat bean a member of the football squad for throe years and as a second team man this year proved to be very valuable to the team. He saw enough action to warrant his receiving a major B in 1945. RICHARD ( Yack started his football career In hb third year and as a senior won a varsity berth. Injured in his first game he was unable to win a gold football but he did earn his major B. PAUL (P. J. DAUY—Guard Paul's presence in any game was always appreciated during the 1945 season. His 160 pounds covered the guard position so well that he received both his major B and gold football tor his efforts on the City-Championship team in 1945. CURTIS (CHINKY' MOORF—Beck Curtis was injured in the very early part of the year and was unable to play for the main part of the seaeon. He did, however, see plenty of actio«l |n the lest Orange game. auA. IxiAelxill plcupeAA. EMIL RESTAIf O—Center Field Fmfl earned his mejor 8 in 1945 along with All-State honors for his alertness and all-around playing ability. For his outstanding accomplishments he was elected captam for the 1946 season. Emil's power at the plate in his clean-up position and his swiftness m the field will long be remembered BOB FERRARA—Short Stop Bob emerged from a field of petition thus winning his job the way. In his play around short stop he closely resembles an octapus with very few balls getting through him. His constant chatter on the field is the in- spiration for many a Barringer victory. He also won his B in 1945. CURTIS MOORE—Catcher Curtis earned his major B in 1945 for his splendid play behind the plate. He has one of the best arms in high school baseball and can hit with equal power from either side of the plate. Curt is an all-around athlete having won Golden Glove and Stato Cham- pionships for two years in a row. the first base position in 1945 as well as his major B. Known to his team- afes as Weeny because of his di- minutive stature he has never let his sire handicap him for he gamed his position over first rate competition. JOSEPH NERENBERG, Coach 87 EMIL RESTAINO, Captain LENNY DeBLANK In 1944 as a junior, Lenny competed in the 75 yd. dash and the broad jump. In 1945 he came into his own winning his major letter. He ran the 440 yd. dash and was a member of the mile relay team that ran in Madison Square Garden. JOHN TENDLER Jack was running on the junior relay teams In 1944. However, in 1945 as a change for the better he began high jump- ing and won his varsity letter. Not for- getting his running ability he was one of the team's half milers. ' PHE 1946 Barringer Fencing Team holds the distinction of being unde- 1 feated throughout the season. However, they can also boast and deser- vedly so of being the 1946 National Fencing Champions. They earned the right to this title in New York as they competed against schools from all over the Metropolitan area. Their New York accomplishment was a fitting climax to an unbeaten season. They were complete masters as eight hapless teams went down before their foils. All Barringer will long remember the 1946 Fencing Team.
