The pride that we secrete in our hearts for this small but momentous group is indeed abundant. Whether they arc near or far, their thoughts and spirits are ever with us. A constant prayer is upon our lips that they will remain unharmed by the horrors of war and will return to us victorious. The class joins in saying, âGood luck, boys and God Bless You.â SHIP AHOY! Features â ANCHORS AWEIGH! Wr have lifted the anchor and will proceed on our uncertain mission into the wild and dark expanses of the unknown which roll out before us to the distant horizon. We have been in safe port for four years and in those years our ship has been prepared for the lifelong and arduous mission to come. We have tried to make those years happy ones, for once leaving the sunny har- bor, we know that the storm outside will certainly buffet us and blow us into the foaming whirlpool called life. But the light from the lighthouse which we are leaving has imprinted its guid- ing message into our hearts and minds, and we are unafraid to enter open water for we are prepared. We, who make up the crew of our ship, have shared laugh- ter and tears, happiness and sorrow, but above all the knowledge of freedom of man, which is being imperiled in these trying times. As we slide into the gray mists of the future, we leave behind us a radiant path of lightâto be sailed by those who will follow us throughout the ages. Words by Mary Jane Simpson- yWusic by Marguerite George CLASS SONG As we end our happy journey, Cherished mem Vies crowd to mind Of the years in these famed halls Which now, too soon, we leave behind. Though our ways will soon be parted. While the years drift in review To beloved Alma Mater Shall we stand, steadfast and true. To the ones whoâvc lead us forward. Pledge we on this gala night That our motto we shall treasure, Of Truth, and Honor and the Light. Though are hearts are now oâer-flowing. With eyes amist, yet heads held high, We shall march to meet our future As we fondly say Goodbye.â [311 cAlma zMater Over many a city old. 7amed in song and slory. 7einple grey and castle hold Catch the sunset glory. Many voices blending, Through the years we pledge thee praise. Loyal to life's ending. Junius W. Stevens, 1924 PAUL J SANDERS in ittnunriam l mi passing of Paul J. Sanders earlier this semester we of Barringer have been stricken a severe blow. His greatest services to his students were not confined alone to the lessons of the day, for while being a teacher of the highest calibre, he was as well an ar dent advocate of character development. Mr. Sanders' personal interest in the problems and activities of his numerous and ever-changing pupils during more than twenty years of merited service at Barringer was one of his most renowned traits. Being known and continually referred to as a wonderful teacher by his students is another tribute to his amia- ble personality. His inventive genius was evident in several devices of scientific value as he was constantly active in many fields of work. Mr. Sanders will no longer be seen standing in front of Room 25 but his spiritual presence will long be felt and held dear in the hearts of all who have known him. We have truly suffered a great loss. 133 1 TOP KNOTS 1. Albert Sorrentino 2. Helen Dale 3. Francis Bennett 4. Esther Niemi 4. Theresa Custode 6. Ruth Potter 7. John Clemence 8. Louis Dc Marco 9. James Flatley Identical AÂŤti|ci LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT Of the Qass of January 1944 It is generally known that we. the Class of Jan. 1944, being of unsound mind and somewhat weakened condition, are expected to bequeath our most precious pos- sessions to the undergraduates and faculty. To Miss Tunstead we leave a pair of roller skates to be everywhere at all times. To Miss Driscoll we leave a new bottle of Spirits of Ammonia. To Mr. Allen we leave three cheers for leading our teams to victory. To Miss Walston we leave a book of âMother Goose Rhymesâ and a class of poetry-loving students. To Miss Capen we leave some uncivilized students to be made civilized in Human Relations. To Mr. Celiano we leave the New Jersey Constitution. To Mrs. Burley we leave some alarm clocks to give to late comers. To Mr. Landolphi we leave a subscription to Esquire for the boys to read while waiting in his office. To Miss Weiss we leave Jack Cairnsâ megaphone. To Mr. Saylor we leave a record of Home on the Rangeâ so he won't strain his voice while demon- strating sound waves. To Mr. Zwcibcl we leave two new secretaries as Mary Jane and Lcoia are leaving. To Mr. Dumm we leave a red, white, and blue sun bonnet to wear in his victory garden. To Mrs. Dacier we leave the lunchroom antics of fu- ture seniors. To Mr. Weiss we leave a record of Moonlight Si- natra. To Mrs. Wilson we leave some well deserved help. To Miss Rine we leave a new set of vocal cords. To Miss Jones we leave a pair of suspenders to hold up her slacks. To Mr. Hartman we leave some dirt-resisting foot- ball uniforms. To the Math. Dept, we leave clouds of chalk dust for the day-dreamers in which to lose themselves. To the Science Dept, we leave the three blind miceâ of the Central game with which to experiment. To the English Dept, we leave the privilege of reviv- ing the dead authors. To the Language Dept, we leave a new group of tongue-tied linguists to aggravate the language teachers. To the Art Dept, we leave a new set of modernistic scribblers. To the Girlsâ Gym Dept, we leave a class without a girl with two left feet. To the Boysâ Gym Dept, we leave a new tarzan. To the Janitors we leave an automatic gum and spot remover. To the Painters we leave the job of painting the pink elevator blue. We leave the auditorium........, on a rainy day or to those who stay, an umbrella stand. We leave the halls in the pink of condition; letâs hope they stay that way. To the undergraduates we leave a long breadline in the lunchroom. To the Annex we leave a new class of bewildered freshmen. To Mr. McGreal we leave our appreciation for his guidance and help. To our under-classmates we leave Mrs. Everall and Mr. Vogel, the two best advisers a class could ever wish for. (35) CLASS PROPHECY Goon evening, ladies and gentlemen, this is Al Sor- rentino acting as Master of Ceremonies for the gala premiere of the '1 1 Hromikoâ night club. As you all know, a great new ship, the U. S. S. Barringer,â was launched this afternoon, and we've all gathered here tonight to celebrate and have a good time. A glance at my Siegel watch (which, incidentally, was a gift from George Siegel, now head of the Sie- gel Watch Worksâ) tells me that we have fifteen min- utes before the show begins. So, in the meantime, well introduce some of our employees to you. Greeting you as you enter the club is William Free- man, our very popular doorman. You are then wel- comed by our attractive hat check girl, Jeanne Brom- ley. Standing nearby I can see that our cute little ciga- ret girl, Jinny Simpson, is chatting with Rose DcRi enzo, the telephone operator. At the entrance of the luxurious 57 Roomâ we sec Stan Hromiko, the owner, talking with Joyce Pearson, who did the interior decorating, and Rose Salerno, owner of Ye Olde Flower Potteâ which is located across the street. Our head-waiter, Vito Zoppi, is now showing a large party to its table. I sec that itâs Paul Eccles, di- rector of the Follies Revue of 1954,â accompanied by several of his chorines, Mildred Davis, Lucille Gilroy, Shirley Rossncr, Doris Cagan, and Helen Drinkwater. On the way to their table they stop to chat with Ray Heun, producer of the tragedy Moon and Suspend- ers. With Mr. Heun are his two leading performers, Ruth Potter and Harold Klein. At the far end of the room I sec Robert Beffic, edi- tor of the Buffie Bugle,â giving last minute instructions to Marilyn Cannon, society reporter, and his ace cam- eraman, John Kirwan. Just a moment folksâthere seems to be some dis- turbance over at that ringside table. Why, itâs little Artie Weiss vehemently denouncing capitalists, Archie H. Harris III and John L. Klem. Listening intently is NJeal Cairns, candidate for the Populist Party, but not so intent is he that he doesn't notice those three rivals for the title of âMiss New JerseyââFlora Esposito, Dot Lanzara and Regina Dockerâcoming in the door. They are immediately joined by Mike Marzano, book reviewer. Sherry Levin, editor of Squint magazine, and Uncle Louie DeMarco, popular radio bedtime story teller. And over there are Vivienne Marr and Hannah Thies, well known society women, seated with Mari- lyn Sccor, Leona Strauss, Mary Musgrave anil Marie Moc, fashion experts from Pahnc's Department Store. They arc being interviewed by Jerry Meehan, roving reporter. Well, folks, our fifteen minutes are up and itâs time for the floor show. But before it gets under way I'll run through the complete program for the benefit of those who can't read. Heading our list of top-notch enter- tainers is Herman Rich, his Burping Rhythm orchestra and his charming vocalist, Lydia Festa, who will sing a popular ballad of the day, Wednesday, Thursday or Never. Then the house-lights dim as the rhythmic strains of a rhumba introduce the world renowned dancer, Helen Dale. Malcolm Urban, the bath-tub baritone, who is next on the program, will set the girls' hearts a-flutter with a few selections from the score of Umbriago.â For those of you who like fast stepping we have those two professional jitterbugs, Jean Bimbo and Dan Por- tella. And last, but by no means least, we have Esther Bubblesâ Niemi doing that daring balloon dance as only she can do it. (The balloons were supplied by the Evelyn Marble Balloon Corp. of America.) Judging from the applause I gather the show was a great success and now as you folks enjoy the delicious food prepared by our chefs, Vincent Salvatoricllo and Ralph Scarola, we will point out some of the guests who arrived a little late. Over in that far corner is Joe Ferraro, surrealist painter. His admiring audience is Sam Quartcllo and Norma Castelli with Angelo Paw lakos and Helen Giordano. At that ringside table arc Marguerite George and Lois VanDykc, opera singers, sipping lemonade and comparing notes with Mary Ranger, music teacher. Making a dramatic entrance are Dorothy Goodrich and Fred Pollack, idols of movie goers. With all eyes focused upon them, they stroll nonchalantly (giving out autographed photographs as they go) to the table of Jimmy McCormack, Yo-Yo king, seated with Alma I lagedorn, debutante. Seated at the table next to theirs arc Ed Sexton, fa- mous ballet dancer, and John Clemcnce, concert pian- ist, both of whom have just returned from a tour of European capitals. What's that bubbling noise over in the corner? Why, it's Joe Westerficld, the inventor, and Ted Sey- mour, a chemist, mixing their super-specials. Hey, Jim Flatley, sit down! This is no time to be giving out free samples of your breakfast food. I see Peggy D'Amico, noted dress designer, talking about several of her new creations to Teresa Comito and Mary DeFabrizio, buyers at Lacey's Department Store. It seems that I'm getting a little competition from Clarence Peale, who is trying out some of his latest jokes on nurses Gloria Scercy, Elaine Pryor, Edith Matthew and June Butler. Plotting a new creation is Vinnic Scalera, women's hat designer, with his private secretary, Florence Kala- mian. She looks mighty sweet in that spur-of-the-mo- mentâ hat (?) Robert Barton, now a famous horse doctor, is busily reassuring Ruth Eiscnberg, head of the Eisenbcrg Horse Stables, that her pet horse, Feed Box,â will be up and jumping hurdles in a few days. Those four Pencil Dots, Walter Chavious, Bert Coppock, Morris Allen and John Brown, current rage at the New York Paramount, are trying to get the waiterâs attention by yelling heyâ in four-part har- mony. Talking about the good old days when they used to cut school are those two truant officers Jerry Meola and Henry Stasio. Having a minor Barringer teachersâ convention are Theresa Fattaruso and Olga DâAloia, Spanish teach- ers, Helen Panagakos, History teacher, Josephine Fi- orvante. Chemistry assistant, Theresa Ferraro, Nutri- tion teacher, Josephine Freda, Biology teacher, and Jo- sephine Librizzi, practice teacher under Mr. Pritch- ard. Thereâs Dottie Ermilio and Ailccn Caruso, co-own- ers of the Erruso Car Corp., drawing up plans for the latest model xyz with their business executive, Joe Caruso. From where Iâm standing Librarians Marie Capola, Eva DeVita and Eileen Snyder seem to be deeply en- grossed in an interesting conversation. It could be about books but I doubt it! David Baccaro, Louis Bi- agini and Salvadore Roppolo seated at the next table make mighty fine looking firemen. Constance Shell and Genevieve Underhill, owners of a gift shop, arc talking to Mildred Black, Geneva Collins and Emma Yeldell, housewives. Having a good time are Mike Mclograno, owner of the P.D.Q. (Pretty Darn Quick) Airlines and his charming hostess, Gladys Widman. They are with Mike Bravette, music publisher, and Shirley Fonda, professional bowler. Discussing her front page divorce case with Tom Tipaldi, District Attorney, and his secretary, Lucy Al- banese, is the former Shirley Rogers. Representing the Chartreuse Radio Network are Leola Spry, leading lady in the daytime serial, Tomâs Other Wife,â and Theresa Custode, who portrays the title role of Magnolia Pflugg,â girl lumberjack. With them is Tony DeSantis, hero of that hair-raising mys- tery thriller, âThe Voice.â Watching some of his former pupils trip the light fantastic is Jack Cairns, head of the Jackie Cairns Ball- room Dancing School. He is accompanying one of his popular hostesses, the glamorous Frances Bennett. Drawing the attention of many to their table arc the Evcrall models. Perry DcRogatis, wearing the latest fashion in evening gowns, and Dorothy Killeen, whose beautiful hands grace many a jewelry ad. I didn't know that a night club could be so boring that you had to read a book to enjoy yourself. No, itâs only Donald Shinbaum, probably trying to prove a point from his Book of Etiquetteâ to Betty Danieli who gives advice to the lovelorn in the Buffie Bugle newspaper. Having the time of their lives are beauticians Rose Marie OâReilly, Catherine Pace, and Rose Ferraro, lis- tening to the morbid stories of that popular (?) mor- tician Lois Denton. She seems to be giving Antoinette Anzalone, Physical Ed. Teacher, the eye. Antoinette, noticing this, makes tracks for her own table, so Lois continues with her stories. Vincent Sperduto, owner of a menâs clothing store, is talking earnestly to Boy Scout leader Bob Flocke. He is probably trying to sell him on the idea of having zoot suits for uniforms. At the next table, seemingly enjoying himself, is Warren Mills, barker at Warnum and Waileyâs Cir- cus, talking with Andrew Cassili and Salvatore Fer- rara who are taking a night off from their duties as policemen. They are joined by Betty Saxon and Joan Salbin, owners of a sweater shop. Off in one corner is Rose LaRossa arguing with Fred Behrle, President of a peroxide corporation that itâs perfectly shameful for a girl to bleach her hair blonde when she can dye it brunette. My time is running out so I'll leave you to your fun. 'Good night, folks, and enjoy yourselves.â Though this prophecy may not be fulfilled in every respect, may each individual find his place in the great new world that lies ahead of us. We now face the world with all its darkness, insecurity, and bitter strife. A world at war challenges us. It challenges us to aid our country with the skills we have devel- oped while gaining a sound and well-rounded education; it challenges us to put into practice those fundamentals of democracy that we have come to appreciate in our school years. The unbounded opportunity to be of service to our country calls for the best that we have to offer. What greater contribution can we make to the world than that of Barringerâs spirit? In Barringer we have participated in the processes of democracy; we have learned to work together harmoniously and with deep understanding and good feeling for our fellow man. Now we must strive to make democratic principles more universal and to do our part in giving Barringerâs spirit to the whole human race. By raising up the standard of Truth, Honor, and Light for all the world to sec, we shall have done our part in helping to insure a just and lasting peace. Castelluccio Edward Grancacnolo Robert B. Cooper Louis DâAlessandro SUMMER SCHOOL GRADUATES BRUNO SCHIAFONE THROUGH THE YEARS RETROSPECT My burdened memory recalls How we, as freshmen, filled these halls. Oh, our disgust and disillusion, Banished hopes and sheer confusion, When we learned our Alma Mater Was minus a âpink[ elevatorâ! Then sober sophs, so very wise, Studied first as the name implies, 'Mid circles, tangents, secants buried, We dreaded math. Oh, how we worried! With world renown anticipated, We led a life sophisticated. In junior year we felt the urge To be where fun and frolic merge. At y. i $ to clubs we tore Or yelled at Big Blueâs football score. We took a peep at fencers prancing And joined a class in ballroom dancing. As high and mighty seniors now The undergrads we shall endow With all the wisdom we have gained And all the marks that have us pained, It tool{ tome doing to reach this height; Thru client lab smoke, the endâs in sight. OUR ALMA MATER SPEAKS Our Alma Mater is old. She is old and she is proud. Four times she has sent her sons to war. And this is what she taught them: âThere is but one way of life if you would live in peace and happiness. It is the way of Truth, Honor, and Light.â She sent her sons to war They fought and won; But neither peace nor happiness endured. And sorrowing she spoke again. She said: âI have given you books, books for friends and books for counsellors. But Truth I cannot give you. Truth is an achievement; go-win it. Honor, too, is an achievement, no bequest. Work for Truth and Honor.â One hundred and six years old is she. And she is wise, wise with the wisdom of years; And she is strong, strong with the strength of knowledge. Anew our Alma Mater speaks; She says: âSons and daughters of Barringer, it is the eternal struggle between right and wrong that faces you. If peace is to be yours, you must fol- low the Light that gives understanding of men and nations. Bear the responsibility; show the democratic way that all may have a ânew birth of freedom and that government of the people, by the people,â and for the people shall spread throughout the whole round earth.â This is what our Alma Mater says. .38. CLASS SONG i r -1 |V-n fo-D 1 - â 'â -t (Sy J â â I Beloved Alma Mater, Youâve given us your all; And now we venture out to win The world thatâs at our call. We leave your lake-hound campus Your sun-drenched spires of fame. But from each heart Will neâer depart The glory of your name! Beloved Alma Mater, Our hope, like yours, is bright; And at our side is found your guide Of Honor, Truth, and Light. Youâll be to other classes, As you have been to us, The school supreme, Our golden dream Of days so glorious! CLASS PROPHECY As wc turned from Park Avenue onto Ridge one fine spring night, we saw J. P. Gaitens, III, just ahead of us. He appeared to be having trouble with a cart- load of Harold Rockawayâs super Rock aâ Bye Spe- cials. Knowing he was bound for the twenty-year reunion of the Class of June, 1944, we hurried to his assistance. When wc reached a new and imposing Barringer, the wilting strains of Howard Scopp's latest ditty, âSwoon for Me,â gave us a lift. Herbert âSuper- man Limpert, carrying under one arm Loretta Vitille and under the other arm Marie Grillo, at that moment elbowed himself between us. Wc re- covered our equilibrium in time to see Madeline Molinari and Mario Taddeo sneaking in a side door. Wc supposed they had forgotten their invitations. In the hall we met Ann McGovern, Louis Espo- sito and Beatrice McEntcc, who accompanied us to the gym. Rose Knadjian, Gloria Mangan and Mil- dred Hartford had decorated it very artistically, and they had Carl Romano to thank for getting them all the chairs and tables they needed. The chairs, by the way, came from the Home of Eternal Restâ run by Lou Mattia and Jerry Cappicllo. The fra- grance of flowers permeated the room. They had been donated by Margie Wyre who, together with Val Larrison and Viola Flack, runs a large florist business. As we looked around the room we saw one of our former class advisers, Mr. Hagaman, who is now head of the Hagaman Hydrogen Sulfide Com- pany. Among the celebrities at his table were Bill Robertson, the Broadway star, with Ruth Hanners, his leading lady, and Ann Grasso and June Perry, the two lovely models from the Jerry Nusbaum agency. They were accompanied by their press agents, Michael Romano and Joseph Kolcs. As the ceremonies were about to begin, Bob Ryan, who was in charge of the affair, escorted us to our seats. John Farina, one of radio's top come- dians, took over as master of ceremonies. He had with him Hollywoodâs own Joanne Bocoffcr who later enacted a scene from her current film âMo- rocco,â in which she co-stars with handsome Bob Gialanella. The film was adapted by Theresa Sali- erno from the book, âThe Morocco Story,â written by Nancy Soriano and Julia Tarantini. Then the famous dance team of Frank Carlucci and Clara Milano performed to the rhythmic playing of Eve- lyn Zccca, the âKeyboard Sensation.â Later Evelyn and the famous violin virtuoso, Frank Scocozza, played a duct for us that was really out of this world.â Miss McKenzie, from her corner table, smiled and nodded to each alumnus as he passed. To each who stopped to chat for a moment, she gave a small card which advertised âThe McKenzie School for âPee- yool-yuhâ Persons.â However, as most of those pres- ent couldnât read without their glasses, her efforts to get new pupils were hopeless. The dancing had begun, and Larry Salerno with his orchestra, that had just finished an engagement at Frank dc Pietroâs Twenty-four Club, relieved Car- men Cicero and his boys on the bandstand. Well- known members of these bands were Ralph Tu- bcllo, Thomas Rizzolo, Jack Kennedy, and Fred Schirm. Hortense Perillo, rated as a second Kate Smith, was warbling a lovely new ballad which had brought its author, Eugene Lowery, a tidy sum in royalties. During the brief intermission, the boys of the band made a bee-line for the corner where refreshments were being dispensed by Ralph Caprio and Jessie Mattia. As we inched our way to them, wc were almost knocked down by the famous composer, Dick Oli- ver, who glided by with Marion Farrow. Smooth dancers, like Bob Biunno and Dorothy Lynch, were on the floor knocking elbows with Barbara Cron- heim and John Ryan, and Gloria di Lorenzo and Russell Sinoway. All this confusion proved too much for Gerard Anderson. As he sw-ooned, three prominent doctors, Ralph Angelillo, Beatrice Gordon, Angela Russo- manno, and a swarm of nurses rushed up. Among the women in white were Bernice Doolittle, Marge Dolan and redheaded Helen Graham. After this excitement had died down, wc en- joyed a famous choral group, including Anita Nel- son, Kathryn Johnson, Dorothy Davis, Ada Wilson and Elaine Gregory. They sang most soulfully one of the hit songs from the Broadway musical ex- travaganza, âOne Ticket to Paradise. As the applause subsided, our M.C. introduced some charming members of promoter Michael Ya- nuzziâs new revue which was to open at the Twenty- Four Club in two weeks. The bevy of beauties in- cluded Theresa Lynch, Sada Markosian, Corinne Runyon and Angela Del Bcccio. Their smart cos- tumes, created by that famous designer, Paul Jacob- son, were almost as lovely as the girls themselves. Over in the other corner, wc saw Elmer Grccn- halgh talking earnestly to Marie Rizzolo, Ann Conte, Maude Patterson and Rose Caruso. As we sidled up closer to listen, wc heard Elmer proclaim- ing, âNow the square of x minus the log of z equals 30. Do you get it? Blank looks greeted him, for none of the girls had taken âTrig.â Philip Anto- nucci and George Beardsley had been thinking of explaining the problem to the girls; but when El- mer failed they didnât even try. The loud rolling of drums brought our attention back to the bandstand. The M.C. then announced that a prize was to be given to the smallest girl present. The contestants, Marie Chirico, Ann Nico- â˘40 CLASS PROPHECY (Concluded) demo, Mary Beth Quinnan, Elaine Klein and Edna May Snyder lined up along the wall. The prize finally went to Ann who was rated tiniest. As we strolled about we discovered Ann Desi- mone, Ado Castclluccio, Mary Frascclla and John De Falco just checking their coats. Theresa Scu- dese, Sam Zarra, Colleen Rowe and Ray Smalling were also late as they had just arrived from their farms at Mctuchen. All of them greeted us cheerily and we were glad that Bob had called this reunion. Oh's and ahâs greeted the next performers as they mounted our little improvised stage. Gladys Hector, Lola Fortunato and Viola Flack, arrayed in lovely costumes, gave us a stirring interpretation of an In- dian Rain Dance. We had been wondering what the tantalizing aroma that came from the basement was. Joseph Zanclli, now head chef at the Essex House, ex- plained that it was a batch of souvenir spice cookies Iris Pcttiford, Catherine Mitchell and Constance Thomas were mixing up. We had to be content with the promise that we could have one when we left. As girlsâ voices reached us, we turned around to see Marie Turriziani, Christine Green, Genevieve Ambroselli and Mocillc Thomas who were standing on a raised platform at the end of the room. They were singing a tune that had been written especially for them by Marvin Greenberg and Jean Puma, a noted songwriting team. Many of our former classmates who had gone into tljc different branches of the service back in 1944 had liked military life so much that they had remained as members of Uncle Sam's armed forces. The Air Corps Captains were Lcn Berman, Jack Fitzsimmons and Anthony Falzarano. Resplendent in Navy blues were Ensigns Thomas D'Alessandro, Michael Russonclla and Joseph Timpano. Mary Liapis, Florence Megaro and Rose Viviani looked very snappy in their Navy uniforms, too, for they had decided to stay on with the Waves. At one of the ringside tables we saw Florence Fox', Gloria Bolder and Yolanda Russomano, who arc now co-editors of a new fashion magazine called âThe Latest Trend.â These girls were all editors of our 1944 yearbook and that experience helped them greatly. Some members of their staff, who were in charge of the fashion section, were also present. They were Alice Donahue, Sylvia Hclfin and Theresa Esposito. The star feature writers, Lois Earles, Audric Ciarkowski and Catherine Ianaconc, sat with them. A ripple of laughter .came from all who were present when Grace Smith, with her aides, Thelma di Domenico, Tcssie Frcsc and Dorothy Dalton, started collecting money for the Homeless Dog Fund.â Grace was well remembered from high school days when she was always begging for con- tributions to' one cause or another. This particular fund had been started by Peter Primamorc and Jean Nazarctta who were both members of the S.P.C.A. Eleanor Krazcski and Ruth Harte, owners of an exclusive little dress shop in the Oranges, had gra- ciously offered to carry desserts to the different tables. Their inexperience showed when they spilled down the front of Marie Kennedyâs new dress, a beautiful blanc mange created by Gwendolyn Allen. The girls apologized and offered Marie a new dress. As some had splashed on Amy Smithâs skirt, she also was in luck. Cries of âHold that poseâ and âWatch the birdieâ echoed through the room, and then we saw- who was causing the disturbance. It was Rose Berbcrian, Corinne Ganny and little Audrey La' Croix snap- ping pictures of the elite gathering. Then Thomas Randazzo ambled over with his two assistants, Filo- mcna Tobia and Rose Tranconc, and announced that he would take a picture of the entire group. There was much pushing and shoving because everyone was anxious to be seen. Grace Cellini, Lena Caruso and Marie Monaghan were on the verge of tears as Dorothy Brown and Elizabeth Saf- ford had stepped on their pretty dancing slippers. Lucille Miclc was giggling because Jean Wester- field's hair was tickling her face. Lena DâAlcssio and Ida Buoncorc couldn't see anything funny in the procedure until Lucille gave a loud sneeze just as the picture was snapped. When our M.C. shouted for everyone to clear the the dance floor, we drifted back to our scats wonder- ing what was coming next. It was an old-fashioned square dance. Among the couples hurrying to the floor were Marie Vito and Tony Dc Pasqualtf, Viv- ian Lewis and Paul Parker, Gloria Maffic and An- drew Monda. The Virginia Reel and Turkey in the Straw soon left them breathless. When Florence Donat icllo and Michael Grasso suggested repeating the dance, they collapsed into nearby chairs and gratefully accepted the cold drinks offered to them by Kathryn Nelson, Barbara Chisholm and Ruth Sundbcrg. We saw that Rachellc Wechslcr, Bessie Williams and Irene Pollack were getting tired. They wanted to go home. Even though they were yawning, Eleanor Snyder and Eugenia Colaiacova couldnât be persuaded to leave the joyful gathering. Soon, how- ever, everyone realized it was late and decided to call another reunion in five years. They were sorry they had waited so long this time. The couples left arm in arm. The last few to go were Rose Codclla, Sarafino Maccioli and Catherine Pollack. The deserted room seemed sad and lonely. The Class of June, 1944, had left B. H. S. for the second time. â˘41. After four years of hard gymnastics, the class of June, 1944, sends forth her group of B girls. Through faithful work and good sportsmanship they have attained a high standard in the fundamentals of physical education. This achievement will always remind them of the fun and pleas- ure they had while working for their âB's.
