Speech L, SENIOR CLASS HISTORY On September 6 1955, thirteen adventurous seeking freshmen were waiting at the spaceport in Barrett to board the BHS for a four year traveling spree Mr Smodell was in charge that year with help from Jerry Jacobson as president, Carlton Chayer as vice presldent, Kay Grayson as secretary, and Robert Shervey as treasurer Our representatives at the governing council were Carolyn Isakson and Clair Nelson On October 21, while we were viewing Mars we were iniatiated The next year we counted the passengers and found that we had lost two Bruce Arthun left us to go to Austin and Earl Thompson went to Hoffman during the year In 1956 Mr Hauer was captain of the ship The officers for that year were Clair Nelson President, Nancy Puchalski Vice President, Sharolyn Erickson Secretary Treasurer, and the Student Council members were Lucille Brau and Earl Thompson In early October we had the pleasure of initiating the Wgreen freshmen N In 1957 we had ten passengers again, and we had a very exciting year Mrs Quist was our leader then, with the help of Robert Shervey, President, Clair Nelson, Vice President, Kay Grayson, Secretary, and Carolyn Isakson, Treasurer Our Coumcil representatives were Robert Shervey and Eugene Anderson In the fall we gave our class play named NA Boy Named Buelah W A Banquet and Prom In the fall of 1958 we again had ten passengers abroad Mrs Quist was again our captain Jerry Jacobson was the pres ident, Robert Shervey was our vice-president, Nancy Puchalski our secretary and Sharolyn Erickson our treasurer Council representatives were Clair Nelson, Kay Grayson and Jerry Jacob son During the fall we had a quick stop at Barrett High for Homecoming events Our candidates were Carolyn Isakson, Kay Grayson, Sharolyn Erickson, Clair Nelson, Jerry Jacobson, and Carlton Chayer Kay Grayson and Clair Nelson were elected to be Queen and King The highlights of the year were our trip to Chicago for Skip Day, and the Junior Senior Prom SENIOR CLASS PROPI-IECY As we are traveling through the Orient, we are finding many familiar faces Haven't we seen these faces before? Oh, yes, it was at Commencement exercises at Barrett High School in 1959 It is surprising we still recognize them, for it is now l97h, and they surely have changed Because we are in Hong Kong, China, we hail a rickshaw for traveling about the city Why, Eugene Anderson is our driver! We knew he was interested in different types of locomotion but we always thought his interest tended toward those in wh1ch motors did all the work we stop at an old Chinese ruin where Kay Grayson is guiding the tour We find that after high school she took a language course and then went to China She teaches English on the side As we are looking over the rice paddles, we see a familiar person It turns out to be Jerry Jacobson looking very different with his pants legs rolled up and a coolie hat on his head Eight children are clustered about him and, when 1nquiring about them, we fxnd they are Jerry's 3 little while later we were all kept busy with the Junior-Senior About this time Eugene was getting tired so we paid him couple yen and started shopplng As we went into one shop a lady in Chinese dress came forward to greet us It was Sharolyn Erickson! She had bought the clothing shop and was doing a big business She was introducing a new type of design in the material we were sitting in a restaurant when a comotion started at the entrance The Ambassador to China from the United States walked 1 As she walked ln we saw it was Carolyn Isakson! While we were talking to Carolyn, Lucille Brau walked by Because she hadn't recognized us we ha1led her and she came over to talk to us She said she was the head of a chopstlck manufacturing company and was doing a very profitable business We all had dinner together and then waited for the floor show The floor show featured an American magic1an who was touring China It was our old friend, Robert Shervey He was always up to tricks in school so we weren' too surprised when he turned up as a magician The next morning we took an airplane to Tokyo We had a very pleasant trip, because our stewardess turned out to be Nancy Puch alski We talked all about our old school days together We had been traveling for quite some time, so we took ou clothes to a nearby laundry to be cleaned To our great amazement Carlton Chayer was behind the counter managing the business got so excited when he saw us he started speaking Spanish mixed with Chinese It was rather hard to understand him We heard that the New York Yankees were playing in Tokyo, so we decided it would be fun to go As we were glancing through our programs, we saw that Clair Nelson was pitching! After the gam , in which Clair had struck out sixteen men in a row, we tried to get close enough to talk to him There about him that we had to walt two hours After such a thrilling tour of the was the best place we could next vls1t back again and visit our friends of the SENIOR CLAS We, the Senior Class of 1959, being hereby will the following: were so many fans gathered before speaking to him!
