Barret, who donated our building to Henderson becoming the Father of Barret, the man for vvhomBarret Manual Train ing High School was namedg and KZQ all the Principals of Barret since it was founded in 1910. They have each played an important part and done an excellent job in building our school into what it is now The building will someday be gone, but the influence that these along with the Facul ties that have served it so well--have had on the lives and memories of every graduate of this school will never lose its power nor be forgotten We would also like to wish our successor, Henderson City High School as much good fortune and prosperity as Barret has had and has bestowed AP Elsie Clay .... Yes, but is is hard to think of ourselves scattered to the four corners of the earth, shaken apart from this seemingly 'one big happy family' into individuals. Who would have thought that scared looking bunch of kids coming to Bar ret High School for the first time in 1950 would turn out to be the class of '55. How impressed we were with this wonderful life of going to high school, even though we were only in the eighth grade. Sitting in our balcony seats in chapel, we were on top of the world .... And the next thing we knew some of us were on top of the water fountains, too! I remember how disappointed I was when I found out we were supposed to study, also. Let's see - in our Freshman year the boys led the race for class officers. Don McClure was president, Curly Walker, vice president, and Joan Hazelwood, secretary and treasurer. Was that the year some of the boys decided sports needed a boost and took an ac- tive part in football and basketball, roughening themselves up for future events--- And there was Sadie Hawkins, when Mike was chosen Lil' Abner. All though we didn't fare to well in the field of athletics, many of our class par- ticipated both in Glee-Club and Band. In our Sophomore year, we showed signs of improvement. We were represented in football by Gibbs, Hare, Hargis, and Barron as regulars. The ten quiz kids, who were accepted into the Audubon Chapter of the National Hon- or Society, made us feel very proud and made me and a few others start thinking a little more about staying home and burning some midnight oil. That was the year Don McClure was elected president again, Tootie Denton vice- president, Glenda Rucks secretary and treasurer. We were coming up in the world, taking more interest in school activities. The Glee-Club show, It Happens Every Year, was a big success with many Sophomores taking an active part. At the Christmas Dance, Peggy Wallace represented our class as a candidate for Miss Merry Christmas. September, 1953, began our Junior year and we were coming into the home stretch. We were now what some people would consider us, in the upper brackets, but still our superiors fthe Seniorsl looked upon us as mere infants. On the hardwood the boys helping toward large victories were Gish, Brown, and Childress on the Varsity. During the Christmas holidays Sara was our attendant to Miss Merry Christmas at the Holiday Dance. We took over the Big Five cheering squad, too. Tootie, Joan, and Faye were elected cheerleaders. What a noisy Junior class we were. How could any of the band members forget the trip to New Orleans and all the ex- citment of Mardi Gras. 'jf:f.-L -If TRACK Barret had a very fine track team as their last one The team this year had outstanding boys in most every event. Two boys got points for us at the state track meet: Fred Schuette tied for first in the high jump and Bill Ruff tied for third in the pole vault. The team won two triangular meets--one against County High and Madi- sonville and the other one against Sturgis and Providence. They lost their only dual meet to Paducah, But they showed up well in the real big meets, placing fourth in the Murray Relays, third in the W. However, Hunter was third in the regional toumament. Good luck to the entirely new team next year.
