The Sophs playe m1ghty b1 part 1n that organlzatxon too Yes an then there was the Glee Club product1on Campus Daze Remember how well 1t turned out? A lot of talent from our class was d1splayed ln the Barret Follies t at year too Oh but then came the year Jumors' The bl ear when everyone began to study The t1tle Upper classmen fltted us very wel but those seats rn Jr Enghsh and h1story never d1d feel exactl rxght 'We got thmgs started fast t at year by electmg Jack Watson as Presldent Norma V1ce Presldent and Faye Secretary And remember all the noxse we made select 1ng our class r1ngs? 'Everyone was hoarse for weeks after that was over No one was satzsfled On roup argued that oval rmgs went out of date w1th hoop sklrts 'Yes but when they arr1ved you would have thought they were all made of platmum the way everyone flashed them around Let s see who were our great contr1but1ons to football that year? Waggener ermgan M1ller Todd and Watson We took over the cheermg squad too Margxe June and Charlotte were elected Cheerleaders What a no1sy Jun1or class we were' Clay and Clark were rlght back 1n their worklng hard dur1ng basketball seas 'And th1s year we had fourteen wonderful w1ts 1n the Honor Soclety I stlll hadn' found my books All that hard studyxng f1rst semester pa1d off though It gave us a chance to coa along the last semester and enjoy a l1ttle soc1al l1fe Oh you mean the Crown1n It was a lot of hard work but that mght we all knew our CrOWH1Dg was the most eaut1ful one ever The decoratlons that went wlth our theme 'Deep Purple seemed so regal and so romantlc' The old gym actually looked l1ke somethlng ln a dream wlth all those sparkl1ng orchxds scattered around It was breathtakmg when the attendents began to walk down the axsle And Margxe and Jlm Ann and Jack and Charlotte and Jack1e Jo were perfectly wonderful attendants Faye and Ronme made a charmmg couple as K1ng and Queen of Barret for 53 I guess 1t'll be a long tlme before anyone forgets that Crown1ng But somethxng else I won't for et for a long t1me was the .Tumor Semor barbecue Everyone en Joyed that too 'And then suddenly we found ourselves ln the best seats 1n chapel w1th a soclology book tucked under our arm Only then d1d we reallze we were SENIORS' ' ' Semors, the most 1mportant people 1n the world and the buslest F1rst came the elect1on Jack Watson was elected Presldent agam Jorene V1ce Preszdent and .Terre Plau Secretar Todd Watson Plau James Waggner and M1ller played h1gh school footballl or the last tlme and played lt well Nothmg could keep us from b mg proud of them Don't forget about Homecoml g 'Wasn't that a new and exc1t1n expenence for Barret? Everyone was thr1lled to death to see Carolyn crowned omecommg Queen She looked lovel Ann and Marllyn made sweet attendants too 'Then basketbal and J1m and Ronme were back o ma e us proud aga 'When Chr1stmas hohdays came around the gang was really busy w1th the Chrxstm Dance and the Hol1day Tournament We were very happ to have Patsy selected Mlss Merry Chr1stmas ' from our class Oh yes the lee Club d1d It agam wx h 'I Happens Every Ye 'I'll never forget all the confusxon selectmg cards and raduatlon announcemen and measurmg for caps and gowns And then came the 1nals Oops' How d1d that get zn there? '489 Oh yes that was our flrst year over here Man that year was really ex c1t1ng' Everythlng was so crowded some b1 handsome upper classman was always steppm on you It was so thr1ll1ng the way t ey would yell at you for gettlng ln the1r way T at year was really fun Huh I never w1ll forget my surprlse when I found out we were supposed to study too' That was really a low blow to all of us But we decxded rlght then that lf the teachers were golng to be that wa about It we d just show them that we would be the flnest class ever to graduate rom Dear Ole Barret Wow were we crazy' Then 49 Freshmen that year Now we were gett1ng somewhere Remember the struggle of electlng class off1cers'? Jxm Clay was Pres1dent Faye Vrce Pr s1dent and .Iack1e .Io Secretary 'That was the year a bunch of the boys declded that sports needed a boost and pre sented themselves to the respectlve coaches very confldent that w1th thls add1t1on the v1ctor1es for Barret would soar fxted by the talent our class offered The Pep Club too Maybe the boys 1n our class d1dn't have what xt took for football and basketball that year but coach Prew1tt started taklng notes for track season when Sadle Haw k1ns dDay rolled 'round No boy freshman or not should have to suffer llke we d1d that ay' That was the year Suanne was Da1sy Mae Carolyn was Moonbeam Leroy was Pappy Charlotte was Wolf Gal and Jeanme was W1dder Frultful Boy what glam our our class dlsplayed' ' We were be 1nn1ng to understand Barret l1fe However we were st1ll a llttle foggy on the ldea o studymg Oh but then came '50 We were so blg and mlghty that year' Even the senlors had to scoot over to make room for us m chapel It was d1sgust1ng to st1ll be called underclassmen We had a lot to accomphsh that year so we got to work early and elected Jack Nelson as Pres1dent of the class Jack Watson V1ce Pres1dent an Bobby Bermett Secretar Remember how proud we al were when Jack Nelson d1d so well on the footbal team? People began to notlce Waggner and Todd too At least the people xn the Sophomore class And then when basketball season came around everybody 1n school knew about our reat Sophomore Ronme Clark Boy Wonder The teachers wondered too J1m lay began to show up 1n basketball that year I remember somethlng else that made us awfully proud It actually made me and a few other fellows start huntmg for those books we'd lost somewhere around the bu1ld1ng Remember?
