BARRETULHIGH 1946 Unlie ' Baseball promises to become a leading sport at Barret. Last yearis team, under the coaching of Camp and Kiefer, had a successful season. The Flashmen faced some stiff competition and they played some good baseball. After losing their first two games to Tell City and Memorial, the Flash beat Reitz 4-2. In their next game the Barret nine made eight errors losing to Cannelton 8-6. After this disappoint- ing game the Flash bounced back when Rideout pitched his mates to a 3-2 victory over Memorial of Evansville. Central beat the Flash on the Evansville field. Bowling Green was a victim to the Flash losing 16-12. When Cannelton visited the Barret diamond the Flash avenged their earlier defeat by overcoming the Cannelton outfit by 10-1. In one of the tightest games of the season, the Purple Flash beat Tell City 2-1. In the most exciting game, Henderson de- feated Central of Evansville 3-2. Wiith the score tied 2-2 and two out in the last inning Rideout hit a homer to score the win- ning run. In the Regional Tournament Central City, Drakesboro, and Greenfield fell before the Flashmen's pitching and hitting, making the Barret boys champions of this region. The team., by virtue of these victories, won its way to the State Tournament at Parkway Field, Louisville, Kentucky. The Flash played good baseball but lost to St. Xavier of Louisville 4-2. The ,46 season opened with the outstanding players, Wvomack, Shelton, Jamerson, and Hollowell reporting. Turner Elrod coached the Barret squad. 1945 g : 3 s in M A Maul-x I r ..' i ' X - f , if? vmrx , 583161 ' I I 2 5 3 I , . ,. E 7. . k M 5 9 f 5 r QM JQIPQ ' 's I' . Q I u 'Q qv 5. . Last spring a group of seniors met and decided to publish a yearbook once again. At the beginning of this school year a committee com- posed of four faculty members and our principal, Mr. Riehl, chose the staff on the basis of the qualifications of the students. Martha Ann Pruitt was chosen editor and has worked to make this annual outstanding. To Ellis Taylor, business manager, Martha Ann Priest, advertising manager, and J. C. Inge, circulation manager, goes much credit for han- dling the very worrisome financial and business problems. John Parker, a volunteer, helped The Revue on its way by securing ads from a few reluctant advertisers. Martha and Nan Dorsey, literary editors, have done a good job on their literary assignments. Without our typist, Dot Walker, this annual could not have been published. She has typed faithfully to get the copy to the printer on time. RETQL HIGH Tor- LEFT! Miss Conway Sponsor To? CENTER: R. Flashing here, there, and everywhere was photographer Buddy Reeder, trying to get pics for the annual. He de- veloped many of the snaps which have made the Revue more interesting. Reporting on our school activities was Sally Clay. From her write-ups and features we have a glimpse of the dif- ferent social events that occur during a typical school year. The various drawings used in the book have been done by Sue Moors, our art editor. The Staff is proud to present this, the 1946 Revue in which we have tried to give you an interesting record of our High School Life. We hope you will like it and that it will forever keep alive memories of your days at Barret High. , . v Ala 1945 7 LOR, Business Manager A CLAY QUII.L STAFF EDITOR: Sally Ann Clay BUSINESS MANAGER: HUGHES Eleanor Hughes CO-EDITORS: Virginia Berry and Nan Dorsey SPORTS EDITORS: Ellis Taylor and Don Armstrong FEATURE WRITERS: Ann Flournoy, Emily Shelton, Martha Dorsey, and Dorothy Walker SOCIETY EDITORS: BERRY Martha Pruitt and Billie Ruth DURSEY Robertson JOKE EDITORS: Juanita Thomas and Judy Howell REPORTERS: Sue Wood, Ann Allen, Martha Priest, .lean Meahl, Margaret Goehring, Bebe Curry, Charles Pepper and Beverly Hughes. .41 V ARMSTRONG TAYLOR BARRETWHIGH The Quill, Barret's monthly newspaper, was put out entirely by the students this year. All the work was done after school hours, and even after seventh period, one might find the staff busy in Mr. Riehl's office. New features, such as Grin and Barret, Haverft You Heard, and Lefs Ask Our Teachers were added to The Quill. On the staff were members of every class who tried to scratch up news from all corners of the school. 1945 SHEI.'l'l DN I I.Ol,'RNOY M. IDORSEY WALKER B. We hear the drums roll and see tht- li.Nl.'l'.ll.5. hand come marching along. ln front appear the major, and majorcttes stepping high. For the past year of '46 john Ke-llow was major, and Nlurit-l Williams, Emily Shelton and Virginia Berry were majorettes. At the half of each football game the band presented splendid programs. This year their marches and intricate drills were well done, exceptionally interesting to see, and their tunes stirring to hear. The band accompanied the team to Mayfield, Morganfield and Sturgis where they turned in some good performances. At the regional contest, 1945, the following members of our band. Ellis Taylor, trombonist, and Wilma Austin, playing the flute, reeeivm-d the ratings of superior and excellent respectively. In the State Music Contest at Lexington, Kentucky, Ellis Taylor, with his trombone again brought honor to liarret, when he was rated excellent. The band was invited to Murray State Teachers' College to participate in the activities at the Home Coming Came between Murray and Illinois Wesleyan. There they received high praise for their performance and were written up in the Chicago Tribune. The members of the band have been invited to attend the Limberlost Music Camp in La Grange, Indiana. This is one of the outstanding camps in the country for music students. We have a good band owing to the hard work and perseverance of Mr. W. A. Merton and the band members. Regardless of the weather, during football season they practiced until they could execute their drills smoothly. On March 23, both the junior and concert bands went to Madisonville to take part in the annual spring contests. Several members tried in the solo divisions. , The dance orchestra has appeared in several pep chapels and won heavy applause on each occasion for their renditions of popular musical nmnbers, some old, some new, but all good. 3?- M.
