With eleven lettcrnlen on the squad, we seemed inclined to drink the cup of victory many times. Coach Edwards called the first ses- sion the first week in September and un- der the hot sun we started practicing. Comvh Edwards The first game of the season took place at home with the boys from Bowling Green. Under the lights our team fought the visitors off. The game ended in a 0 to U tie. Next we went to Paducah, where their championship team took us to camp. llinus J. Robards we left for Clay confident of victory. However. we failed to click until the last quarter, when Harry Walters caught a long pass for our only tally. The game ended 18 to 6. Returning home we played the scrapping Providence eleven. Marching up and down the field we came close to the goal many times hut failed to score until the last minutes of play, when Cohron went over for the only score of the game. We won, 6 to 0. On Armistice day we played Morganfield. They gave us a nice beating. The game ended with a 32 to 0 score. We ended the home season by playing Marion. Although we put on a des- perate drive in the fourth quarter they won. Clayman injured, we left for Owensboro, a tired, disheartened bunch of boys. Although our shaken-up team fought them evenly, the first quarter, their superior age and weight wore on our outfit. We were defeated 58 to 0. Seven lettermen leave this year. They are Alex Blair, Aaron Davis, Tom Gherman, Walter Farley, Louis Hartenfeld, James Robards and Harry Walters. -NLoU1s HARTENFELD. hlifj I 'S 1 ' '-K . Vi'e had only one regular player from our last year's team. A team com- posed of young, small boys took to floor, and, to the surprise of the fans, showed up to be a good team. After playing fine ball for half the season, Southard became in- eligible. To replace him after mid-term, our all-state player, Ernest Brown, was made our center. Practice was called off and some of our games were cancelled because of the flood. In spite of interference and lack of experience, we had a good team. The brightest spots of the season were the two defeats we handed our ancient rival, Owensboro. Henderson was the host to two tournaments, the district and the regional. Although we didn't go to State, we felt we had a successful season, as the region- al champ found it an exceptionally hard task to defeat our boys. We won by a score of 97 to 36. On April 17, we had the quadrangular meet, competing with Central and Reitz of Evansville, and Prince- ton. Reitz won by a slim margin, Henderson coming in second. The following Thursday we met Reitz in a dual meet. Henderson lost. On April 24 we entertained Louisville Male. Our boys were in good shape and we won 6216 to -ww. This is the first time in thc history of the school we have defeated a Louisville school in track. On the following Wednesday wc met Bossc of Evansville. Davis was absent, consequently we could not gain the necessary points to win. On May 6, we visit- ed Louisville and there we met the powerful Manual squad. All the boys had a good time, although we lost. On May 16, the Western Kentucky track mcct was held. Henderson won. making almost three times as many points as all the other teams combined. Un May 22, the state track meet was held. Henderson came in fifth to make the season a success. Not too much can be said for the team. Harry Walters showed himself to he a master cinderman in collecting 114 points this year, excluding the state meet. Bob Walker and Ernest Brown scored 48 points apiece, to tie for second place honors. Henderson has a track team of which it can be proud. 5 !
