The struggle to provide education for all American children and youth constitutes one of the most thrilling and one the most significant social problems in all h1Si0fY- Thls struggle is based on the belief that all people should have the ODDONUHHY through the Dm' cess of education to become their own b9S1 The development of habits of good citi rensliip is a prime objective of every school 'lhe question naturally arises who is a goof citizen? I think the answer to this thought provoking question is contained in a poem-author unknown I submit this poem to you for careful study and meditation The ability to succeed in the pursuit- of happiness is not innate in the human being but must be acquired through l0f12 and Pai' lent study. BUILDERS OR WRECKERS9 I watched them tearing a building down A gang of men in a busy town With a ho heave ho and a lust ell The school is a P0tent means through which good Americans are made. With these facts in mind Barnsdall schools are happvjv be associated with all of you in your training for citizenship and life. - 1 - v y I asked the foreman,, Are these men skilled? He gave a laugh and said No indee Just unskilled labor is all I need lcan easily wreck in a day or two What builders have taken a vear to do And I thoughtto myself as I went my way Your teachers have all Dlafed ,9mPh3?l5 gn the 50-Called Three-R5 . . . reading, WU'-' ing and arithmetic but they have also pla'C+2tl equal emphasis on history. ETlEllSh, Slielllngv health habits, character building and all the other things calculated to make happy, useful, successful citizens. Which of these roles have I tried to play Am I a builder who works with care Measuring life by rule and square? Am I shaping my deeds to a well made plan Patiently doing the best I can Or am I a wrecker who walks the town Content with the labor of tearing down So here is wishing you a long successful life and may your annual always bring back pleasant memories. RAMON RENO . . High School Principal High School Superintendent As the end of another school year draws near let us look backward for a moment and answer these questions: When given an assignment have we al- ways said I'll try instead of I can't? .When there was a job to be done did we do it ourselves instead of saying Let Joe do it? Have we tried to make newcomers to our school feel at home? Have we been quick to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate than ourselves? Have we looked for the best in others in- stead of the worst? Have 'we tried our best to live up to the m0F3l, spiritual, and scholastic standards of our school? Have we taken a personal pride in being a part of Barnsdall Schools? th If we can answer yes ' to the seven ques ions above .we may consider ourselves con- structive citxzens of our school, 2 A. E.
