The classes shown, the events in sports, and arts, in fact the entire book is a challenge to each one who turns its pages to see if he is measuring up to his opportunities and responsibilities. The Horizons of opportunity are as broad as the world. The best country in the world is ours. Let's be proud of this American Heritage, and preserve to our posterity by building strong moral and spiritual values of life, finding our jobs in the economic world that we are qualified to do, then through this pattern weave the determination to live in a world at peace. Don't forget the theme of the yearly devotions, lt is no secret what God can do , when men face unlimited Horizons. G?-lb HQ .l'-i - '51-4 . ,4- E- li? ,,..-is J ,H 1: Nts X9 XP! N. Future Homemakers s et their hats . . . to rid the town of mice and rats . . . quicker than with a kitty. And now lest the foregoing lib :rties with Mr. Browning's verse offend the cultured, this account reverts to prose. Thursday will be RP trat poisonj-day in Barnsall. That day all householders in Barnsdall are to put out rat poison at the same time. Miss Willetta Stuart, home eco- nomics teacher in the Barnsdall highschool, explains, We think we have a nice town. And we don't think we have any more rats than a lot of other towns. We just don't want to have any. Miss Stuart, who sponsors the homemakers group in Barnsdall, N., Declares says it alls started with news last s u m m e r of ratkilling in flooded Kansas City. We have a river-it's really just a creek-here, and we have a few rats, says Miss Stuart, The girls thought it would be nice to get rid of all the rats. Last summer a small child here inlBarnsdall was bitten by a rat. So the girls secured the bless- ings of Ramon Reno, superin- tendent of schools. The Barnsdall v e r s io n of Browning's Pied Piper of Hame- lin is Carol Anthony, president of Future Homemakers. Carol went to the Barnsdall chamber of commerce and explained the plan. The business leaders liked the idea. A member, druggist Harold White, found he could get a spe- cial price on 500 pounds of rat poison containing the chemical warfarin, a guaranteed ratkiller. They could get the poison for little more than half the retail Fw 'f Rai War price. The poison was ordered and delivered, So , , , Into the street our Carol step ped . . . smiling first a little, grin . . . as if she knew what magic slept ...in the sack with poison in. Carol and the other girls ob- tained a map of Barnsdall and divided it into sections. Then armed with sacks of rat poison they went from house to house. They peddled the stuff at 65 cents a pound, the same as it cost them. Now the signals are set for Thursday night when ev- eryone in Barnsdall will put out the poison and leave it out two weeks Barnsdall rats are not ex- pected to drown as did the Ham- elm variety. Thcy're supposed to eat themselves to death. Barnsdall has no intention of dezradingthe name of Birt creek. One nice thing about the Barnsdall plan: If it vt' U rks there'll be no piper to pave Senivr High Kula wall niwa Hgaofcetliaff AZ Qs!
