A year passes — August 24, 1976 to May 31, 1977. A yearbook collects flashes and chunks, freezes them, and pieces them together. Time stops, preserved in ani- mation, waiting for the day when the book is opened and the year can begin again. The story must be as true as the faces loved, the halls walked, the chapters learned, and the insights gained. The feelings must be as real as those conjured up by an old song. Our 1977 Hilites is a journey into that world of sus- pended animation — brought to life by any human being who shared this year with students at Barneveld High School. 3

I The 1977 Yearbook Staff has dedicated this edition of Hi- lites to Mrs. Jan Swenson, music teacher with unlimited talent and know-how. She certainly is our 'Teacher of the Year. We can all be very proud of her and be glad to have her in our school.
