CLASS HIGHLIGHTS September, 1951 was a happy exciting day for fourteen timid ambitious Freshmen as they entered Barneveld High School under the leadership of Mr. Virgil Butteris. Our class enrollment increased to fifteen when Eugene Budd entered from Fennimore. Our initiation was one event we will always remember. Dressed in our gunny sack dresses, big five buckle boots, bathing suits, and housecoats we looked like a bunch of goblins. We elected the following for our class officers: President, Elden Cushman; Vice-President, Billy Friedli; Secretary, Pat McSherry; Treasurer, Mary Arnold; Student Council, Phil Erickson. Sophomores, and no longer those green Freshmen! Dick Dodge entered from Ridgeway. We elect ed the following for class officers: President, Phil Erickson; Vice-President, Dick Dodge; Secretary, Norene Reuter; Treasurer, Donna Varcoe; Student Council, Jean Ranney. Juniors! Oh, we're getting there. The first big event this year was the arrival of our class rings. Then it was initiating the Freshmen, and before that evening was over several Juniors looked as bad as the Freshmen. Our Junior Class Play entitled Finders Creepers held on November 18, proved to be very exciting. The biggest event for this year was our Prom, entitled Star Dust , held on May 8. This meant decorating, dates, and fun. Queen Rosie Sutter and King Pat McSherry led the grand march with music furnished by Dan Garson. In the fall of our Junior year two of our classmates did not return; Eugene Budd transferred to Hollandale, and Waiter Evans at home. Harold Thorpe joined us from Mineral Point. Seniors! Weren’t we big then? At least we thought we were. Our first big task for the year was to get started with our annual. We elected the following for our class officers: President, Dick Dodge; Vice-President, Phil Schaller; Secretary, Mary Arnold; Treasurer, Maxine Theobald. Our Homecoming was held on January 21. The evening was off to a good start with our win over Hollandale, Sammy Eggum furnished the music for our grand march led by Queen Jean Ranney and King Pat McSherry. All in all our four years at Barneveld High have proven to be very successful.
