H. S. With this thought in mind, we would like you to take a look at our school and reflect over the past school year. Clubs take on tasks such as collecting for The Cancer Society, Heart Fund. and Muscular Dystrophy. Others sponsor needy children, hold clothing drives, and contribute time to the elderly and the youth of the community. At B.H.S., Brotherhood is always at its best. 5 W0033 td Freedom for B. H. S. students begins at the blaring sound of the three-twenty bell. School exits are swamped as students rush for buses and cars, while others take their good ol' time” in trudging home. Freedom means different things to different people. For some, it may just mean being out of the brick walls called school.” Others, who value their leisure time more, enjoy long walks alone, meditating about important issues in every day life. Some relax with the companionship of friends as they watch games, attend dances, or simply goof around.” Many use their idle hours to expand creative interests in the way of music, art or journalism as they contribute bits and pieces of beauty to this world of shambles. Freedom is all these things, but it is mostly what you make it. 7 ,,6„ onoio Here we are floating in on cloud-nine. As we take a tour through the halls, we notice several students enjoying their oblivion. Dreamy looks, juanty walks and that twinkle in someone's eye describe that feeling of cloud-nine. Imagine the mirages gliding past those uplifted heads obviously not studying for that test which rolls around next period. But for the time-being all that matters are these few moments of glee. A bounce in someone's walk denotes another cloud-nine passenger, threading the way through the hubbub of confusion not realizing where his feet are taking him. A look, a smile for that certain someone are seen as we focus in on one of the many couples who get together for a brief chat at noon. Knowing that you brushed all those cobwebs away would send anyone sailing to cloud-nine. But what could be better than performing that stunt of 'kicking the habit” to show that you, too, are on cloud-nine. 10 1. How can I get him to notice me? 2. Counting sheep is such a strain - 10,001, 10,002 . . . 3. Uh - Hi-i-i Mom! 4. I’m taking this to a higher court - I'm innocent! 5. Will the excitement of this pep assembly ever end?! 4 Day by day, Day by day, Oh, dear Lord, three things I pray FROBLE US, WE CAN WORfO rrOLT 15 INDULGE IN G0 UEIMN S, . . .WOR ! What could be more appropriate for school? Work, and as you can see, everyone seems to be enjoying it. Maybe not thoroughly enjoying it, but they're glad that they studied for that test or found a job that they had wanted since they were 14. Work helps us learn, and what could be more rewarding than knowledge, knowing we can pass that test or hold a job that we were determined to get. Work and indulge in knowledge. INfDMDU US W. . . You have 2 big eyes, a pug nose,” 10 wiggle fingers, and 10 wiggle toes. You are a person. You are yourself. You are what God made you. You cannot change yourself, so make do with what you have. There's a lot going for you. Don’t be afraid to express yourself. Everyone has a right to his opinions, and you do, too. Whether you express yourself in speaking or writing, don’t be afraid. Work out your problems, ease your mind by writing down a few lines of poetry. You'll be surprised how good you really are. Does your talent lie in your hands? Pick up a brush and give it a swish here with a dab of paint there. Maybe you're good at building. If so, go to it and see what conglomeration you can create. Fun time is the time to smile and laugh till you can cry. Smiling because you want to, because something has touched you, and you want to smile even if no one else is. Expressing yourself - no matter how silly it looks to others and knowing it's you. But most of all, individualism is being true to yourself and others. Karen - Another Friday night - another dance. 1 3 50 It starts at 3:20 p.m. on Friday. The nervous buzz of anticipation is felt until the bell rings - then teachers and short people are trampled. The school is cleared so fast that it would put a fire drill to shame. Then the collapse! Some tear home to raid the refrigerator and catch their latest soap opera or some go downtown to shop. Some rest up for the night to come. Friday evening there is always something to do - a ball game and afterward a dance. Saturday is a day for sleeping in and watching cartoons. After some incentive to work (nagging!), a few people, especially Mike, head for their rooms to do some cleaning. The finished product - a room you can walk through. Saturday afternoon those who don't have a job head downtown and shop or work on assignments in the library. However, there are a few who snore their Saturday afternoons away. The Sunday passes quickly, and the homework is still lying under the bed. By the time it is done, it's time to sleep. The next thing - Monday morning - BLAH! 51 FACULTY Mr. Carissimi - The butler with evil intentions. UYQERYVSTBELMOfJr Good evening - Detective S. O. The starting five consisted of four seniors and a junior. Coach Rigel molded the team into well-knit victory combine. At publication time, the Shamrock cagers had lost only two games by a total of five points. As a whole, the squad was made up of five seniors and six juniors. Personal accolades go to senior standout Larry Hall, who went over the 1,000 point mark for his three years of Varsity basketball at B.H.S. Varsity assistant Dave Johnson again served as Reserve coach. He worked with ten sophomores, who promise to offer area fans much excitement in the near future. Va. Members of the team are Craig Douglass, Tyrone Jackson, Kevin Logan, Chris Stephen, Joe Hughes, Dave Cook, Harlan Temple, Bret Preston, Malcolm Spence, and Bill Finnical. 107 WANT ACTION ?7URN ivi m 1 WRESTLING The wrestling team, under Dave Kovalick and his assistant, John Vogelmeier, shows much potential. The team was captained by three senior lettermen, Challen Stewart, Scott Smith, and Dave Leach. In the B.H.S. Invitational, Stewart and Smith picked up individual championships, while Leach earned a consolation title. In the O.V.A.C. Stewart won at 119 lbs., Smith garnered a third place, and Leach captured a fifth place finish. The team shows much promise because of the welcome number of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. On the season, the team followed a tough road and gained some much needed experience and confidence. Senior, Stewart, compiled a sparkling unbeaten record through the regular season. Sectional, District, and State competition remain on the schedule. 108 no 19747QUCWQI WFRCVE WENT Pictured- 1. R. Drake, J. Robb, S. Kimble, C. Stewart, D. Clift, B. Kidd, R. Stephens, J. Pryor. 2. SEJDDER£ £JV£ MEW OCAO-l FOOTBALL '73 This year's football team had a new head coach and a new assistant. The new boss is John Hutchison, and the new assistant is Darrel Davis. The incumbent assistants are Gary Nichols, Dave Kovalick, Dave Johnson, and Mike Welsh. The gridders turned in four straight shutouts enroute to a glittering 7-3 season. The team bounced back from two point losses in the opening two games to post seven consecutive victories before losing by a field goal in the finale to undefeated Shadyside. Two games that stand out in the memories of Shamrock buffs are the games against arch-rival St. Clairsville and the final game of a long series with friendly foe the Cambridge Bobcats. At St. C. the Shams fell behind by a 6-0 score but regrouped and went on to thoroughly thrash the Red Devils 42-6. The Cambridge game at the Stadium was much more exciting. The Bobcats scored a t.d. in the final two minutes to go ahead, but a t.d. pass in the last six seconds won the game for B.H.S.
