Dorothy Dew was selected as skipper, and she brought the ship successfully through the First league of the voyage, advised by Mr. Dunlap. l The following year, just a little later in September, after docking for the summer months, we again weighed anchor, this time under the iron hand of Ed. Smith. We were also under the surveillance of Miss Krafthefer. Dur- ing this voyage, the inter-class tournament was won by the Sophomores, cap- tained by Nickles, coached by Kearns. , The third league of the journey, Beatrice Malone, aided by Miss Stay- men, piloted us through this year. We published the Senrab, held a success- ful class play followed by a banquet, and were the host to the Seniors at the annual Junior-Senior Banquet. The last and saddest lap of the voyage has been supervised by Brenton Reynolds and Miss Hornbecl We have almost reached oui final port in High School Life According to Nicl les we haxe as good as won the class tourn ament already We hope to have served our Alma Mater to our best capa city in athletics scholarship and good fellovx ship We will always hold B H S in deepest reverence Wm S K 30 C ass colors 1 ose and Silver Brenton Reynolds Clara Froehhch Dorothy Dew Roger Shepherd William Kearns Georgia Hornbeck President Vice President Secretary Treasurer Senrab Report r Sponsor HONOR S FUDLN1 S Valedictorian clara Froehlich 97 25 Salutatorian Sarah Bradlield 96 68 WX IQXXXNIRN UW N KW! The members of the team deserve much credit for their faithfulness in practice. The Eastern Ohio League ended three sided in a tie, Barnesville, Adena, and St. Clairsville each having won ten games and having lost two during the season. In the Southeastern Ohio Tournament, Barnesville defeated Bellaire at Marietta, thereby earning the right to enter into the finals at Dennison. 44 -Evil wo! if 34' ' N' ' K ae ' 'Q-. vu-5 .9 k , , , , V + . She was always ready to brighten up our little gloomy places and to put pep and vigor into our fighting. This is Ponv's last year with us. Hazel Dewar- Hazzy is one of those guards that never give up until the end. She is quick and how she breaks up plays! This is I-Iazy's last year in H, H. S. Kathryn Peters-HKaty has certainly proved her worth as a guard. She was always on the alert and ready to go, and we could depend on her breaking up the opposing teams plays. Katy will be with us for two more years. Dorothy Dew-l'Dot': was our Uhigh-point man this year. All through the season Dot had the old tight. Never before has B. H. S. witnessed such passes as those of Dot and HM . This is Dot's last year. Martha Frasher-- M is our little lady who slips away from her guard to recover the ball and then before you know it, she has bucketed it. This is 'AM's last year with us. Beatrice Malone-- Batty was our center and leave it to her to get the tip-off. Batty was a dependable player and had all the spirit necessary to make a good one. This was Batty's last year. Sarah Bradfield- Sally is a splendid shot especially at fouls. She was in our foul shooting contest and made a very good showing. Although a consistant player, Sally was handicapped the first of the season with a bad knee. This was her last year, Charlene Allen- Ch'arlieA' is another sure shot. She is our only pivot man and when she gets the ball she breaks away from her guard to score another basket for us. We can see a bright future for us because Charlie has two more years with us. AXWWX SEN '30 i I-li-Y The Hi-Y organization which seeks to develop the mental, moral and physical character of each of its members has this year placed more emphasis on the latter purpose than on the first two named. Although our organization has emphasized the physical side of life we do not mean thereby to place physical development before our mental and mofal developmentg but we feel that our schools and churches can better handle our mental and moral needs. Therefore we have tried to make our lives just a little better through clean sports, properly supervised and hope therewith not only to strengthen our physical bodies but also to develop our mental and moral beings. It is also our fond endeavor to make our club one that is worthy of its purpose and hope thereby to make our school proud of us. Each member was accompanied by her little sister' and they followed the setting sun to Leatherwood valley where all gathered around the campfire and enjoyed gypsy broth, rolls, and toasted marslnnallows. Afterwards songs were sung and in the dim twilight as the embers of the camp- fire died away, the theme of the evening, Candles That Burn was discussed. Then taps were sung and the gypsy maids and their adopted sisters trod their way over the lonesome gypsy trail back home. G. R. HALLOW'E'EN PARTY Friday evening, October, 1929, the Girl Reserves met at the school building masked and grotesquely costumed. After a half hour of wierd pantominc and much whisper- ing in muffled tones, each girl was marched out into the middle of the floor for the rest to guess who she was. Dorothy Dew was most successful in concealing her identity, for nobody knew who she was. Wfhen everyone had unmasked there was an apple- bobbing contest. Then the party was conducted through the basement on a mysterious ghost walk and then they were led into a dark room where a most unearthly and blood- curdling ghost story was told. Lunch was served at an appropriate hour and the girls reluctantly departed, warily gliding past shrubbery and dark corners in fear of spooks . ' MARCH HARE PARTY ln honor of the season's most welcome guest, gentle springtime, the G. R. held a 'lMarch Hare Party at the school building, Tuesday evening, March 25, 1930. A very dainty service of food was rendered, consisting of fruit cocktail, chicken fricassee, peas in patty shells, salad, and an appropriate bunny sherbet. Afterwards Katheryn Peters sang a solo and Martha Frasher performed a clog dance. One of the special features of Aunt Lucial' was presented by the girls who were in the show. An informal meeting followed and at an early hour the party broke up in order that every one MIGHT get their lessons for the next day. JUNIOR-SENIOR BANQUET The animal Junior-Senior Banquet was held in the Methodist Church dining room, on May 17, at 6:30. The room was beautifully decorated with green and yellow, the Senior class colors. The tables were decorated with yellow roses and candles. VVaiters and waitresses, chosen from the Sophomore class, deserve much credit for helping make this 'affair a success. The following program was given according to the airplane scheme: THE FLIGHT OF THE CLASS OF '29 ilW3l'1UlHg Up ----------' Watt Laughlin The Pilot - - Mr. Schafer lion Voyage - Beatrice Malone l'The Hop Off - - - Margaretta Clouse Above the Clouds Csoloj - Lawrence McGee Stunt Flying - - - - Stunt Smooth Sailing' I. Splendid Heats were served and several requested musical numbers were given. SENIOR CLASS PLAY, 1929 Miss Somebody Else , a four act comedy was presented by the Senior class at the High School auditorium Tuesday evening, May 21, 1929.
