glass illustrnfg It was the year 1951 when 14 scared Freshmen entered the doors of Barnes Rural Hlgh School determmed to put the1r braxns to good use CProv1d1ng they had onel S1x weeks later Donald Stettn1sch qmt school wluch left a class of a Lucky 13 And were we ever lucky to SUI'VlV6 that 1n1t1at1on glven to us by those pow erful 52 Semors The follow1ng offlcers led us successfully through that f1rst year pres1dent Gary Funke v1ce pres1dent Glenn Wexche secretary Lonnle Peter son treasurer Jamce Wolverton class reporter Shlrley Sedlacek and student coun c1l representatrve Karen Holt M1ss Phyll1s Hogenmxllar was the class sponsor In the fall of 1952 the same 13 students returned to BRHS better known as the Intellxgent Sophomores Off1cers elected were pres1dent Gary Funke v1ce pres1 dent Jxm Coltharp secretary treasurer Janice Wolverton class reporter Al1ce Jor genson and student counczl representatwe Tw1la Rlchter The class sponsor was Mxss Betty Joy Hlghhght of the year was servmg at the Junlor Semor Banquet When September rolled around 1n 53 we returned as upperclassmen Class offlcers were pres1dent Gary Funke vrce pres1dent Glenn Wexche secretary treas urer Lonnxe Peterson class reporter Al1ce Jorgenson and student counc1l repre sentat1ve Twxla R1chter In February we were sorry to lose our pres1dent Gary tharp was elected to succeed Gary as pres1dent Our class sponsor Mrs Phyllls Duell helped us wonderfully ln g1v1ng a magmflcent Jumor Semor banquet whlch took place on April 30 The CIICUS theme Bxg Top was very cleverly carrled out m the decoratlons program and menu Comm Round the Mountain our Jumor class play was presented on the nlght of Aprxl 9 under the dxrectlon of Mr James Ch11ders Once agam we made our appearance-thxs tlme for the last t1me for we were now the twelve Semors of 55 J 1m Coltharp was elected pres1dent Lonme Peter son v1ce pres1dent Al1ce Jorgenson secretary Tw1la Rlchter treasurer and W1l frled Hattesohl student councll representatxve On November 16 the Semors pre sented a most comlcal and enyoyable play For Pete s Sake to a grand audxence Thls play proved to be a real hxt About 4 00 Monday mormng Apr1l 18 those sleepy Semors and two sponsors Mrs Hmzda and Mr Sandlm started out for Kan sas Cxty on the Semor sneak The Ice Capades was the h1ghl1ght of the trxp We returned home real early Wednesday morn1ng w1th our arms full of packages and our pockets empty On Apr1l 29 we were honored by the great banquet Wh1Ch was gxven to us by the Jumors of 55 Out of the twelve Lonme Peterson Karen Holt and Jan1ce Wolverton attended all the1r twelve years of school together at Barnes Grade and H1gh School As we round the last turn 1n the road ffraduatlon and a high school dlploma vue are saddened by the thought of leavmg Barnes Hxgh We are thankful however for all the happy memor1es we wlll take wlth us as we travel further onward 1n l1fe THE SENIOR CLASS OF 55 a , .
