“Gflass idnslolrs It was the year 1951 when 14 scared Freshmen entered the doors of Barnes Rural Hxgh School determlned to put the1r brams to good use iProv1d1ng they had onel S1x weeks later Donald Stettmsch qlut school whlch left a class of a Lucky 13 And were we ever lucky to surv1ve that 1n1t1at1on gxven to us by those pow erful 52 Sen1ors The followmg offrcers led us successfully through that f1rst year presldent Gary Funke v1ce presldent Glenn Wexche secretary Lonme Peter son treasurer Jan1ce Wolverton class reporter Sh1rley Sedlacek and student coun c1l representatrve Karen Holt Mxss Phylhs Hogenm1llar was the class sponsor In the fall of 1952 the same 13 students returned to BRI-IS better known as the Intelhgent Sophomores Offlcers elected were president Gary Funke v1ce presl dent Jlm Coltharp secretary treasurer Jan1ce Wolverton class reporter A1106 Jor genson and student councll representatxve Tw1la Rxchter The class sponsor was Mlss Betty Joy Hlghlxght of the year was servlng at the Jurnor Senlor Banquet When September rolled around ln 53 we returned as upperclassmen Class officers were pres1dent Gary Funke v1ce presrdent Glenn Wexche secretary treas urer Lonnie Peterson class reporter Al1ce Jorgenson and student councxl repre sentatwe Twmla Rxchter In February we were sorry to lose our presldent Gary tharp was elected to succeed Gary as presldent Our class sponsor Mrs Phyllxs Duell helped us wonderfully 1n glvlng a magn1f1cent Jumor Semor banquet whlch took place on Aprxl 30 The C1I'CLlS theme B1g Top was very cleverly carrled out U1 the decoratlons program and menu Com1n Round the Mountam our Jumor class play was presented on the nlght of Aprxl 9 under the d1rect1on of Mr James Chxlders Once agam we made our appearance th1s tzme for the last t1me for we were now the twelve Sen1ors of 55 J1m Coltharp was elected presldent Lonme Peter son v1ce pres1dent, Al1ce Jorgenson secretary Tw1la R1chter treasurer and W11 fr1ed Hattesohl student counc11 representatlve On November 16 the Sen1ors pre sented a most corrucal and emoyable play For Petes Sake to a grand audlence Th1s play proved to be a real 'hlt About 4 O0 Monday mormng Aprxl 18 those sleepy Seniors and two sponsors Mrs Hnxzda and Mr Sandlm started out for Kan sas C1ty on the Senlor sneak The Ice Capades was the h1ghl1ght of the trxp We returned home real early Wednesday mormng w1th our arms full of packages and our pockets empty On Aprll 29 we were honored by the great banquet whlch was glven to us by the Jumors of 55 Out of the twelve Lonnie Peterson Karen Holt and Jan1ce Wolverton attended all the1r twelve years of school together at Barnes Grade and High School As we round the last turn 1n the road Uraduatxon and a high school dlploma we are saddened by the thought of leax mg Barnes Hlgh We are thankful however for all the happy memorles we w1ll take wlth us as we travel further onward ln llfe THE SENIOR CLASS OF 55 of , .
