Mike also handled the toughest defensive chore on the club and he gener- ally did an excellent job. The reserves got many opportunities to play and more often than not they held their own. Sophomore Mike Mait, the sixth man, filled in brilliantly when called upon. He drove well and displayed a soft touch on his shots. XY!hen height was needed, 6 ft. 6 in., Bill Applebaum and 6 ft. -i in. Tommy Ollendortf utilized their size to great advantage. They were deadly underneath and speared a great many rebounds. Seniors Mike Hazzon, Marty XY'einstein, and johnny Mc-ltzer all displayed fine court presence. as did junior Vic Stone and Sophomore Sam Ketive. Vic 570116 The Bears opened the season on Dec. 7, with a 57- 23 win over Eastern Military Academy. Horn tallied 16 and XVaksman 15 in this aftair. Xwaksman corralled 27 and Horn 2-i in wins over New Lincoln and Vilalden. The Bears made it four straight by trouncing Englewood 79-31. Columbia Grammar was the next victim of the Purple , by a 80--11 score. Wfaksman netted 23. Horn got 20 and 18, as Barnard routed XVoodmere and Mcliurney for their first two league victories. The third was at the hands of Ifieldston, 50- 3', with XY'al-:sman notthing a powerful 2-i. A1 Scored 20 more in a big win over Concordia, 54-57. Dwight was the tenth opponent trounced by the Bears, as Horn tallied with the individual season high performance of 52.
