UMULATIVE COG OMENS OR The Story of Little Purple Riding Hood Now, kiddies, gather 'round and listen while I tell you the story of Little Purple Riding Hood and her trip to Barnard. Once upon a time there lived a little girl who loved purple clothes. Wherever she went, whatever she did, she wore a purple hood. Her name was Little Purple Riding Hood. She lived on the edge of a bleak forest known as Van Cortland Woods. Not far from her, amidst dense sBrure trees, lived Grandfather Raymond. On the Hayefy day our story opens, Little Purple, shy and Deillnro, trudged through the Meltzing snow on her way to Grandfather's school. She was Garbered, of course, in her favorite outfit and was eating an ice cream fone and a frank. In these perilous woods, many people have been known to fall into a deep abyss ne'er to be seen again. And, many fearsome beasts, including brninr, lions, and several wild Guernseyf make their homes here. I establish law and justice in the land. -Hammurabi Stand your ground! -Parker Little Purple, however, did not realize these dangers. As she tripped merrily along, she could hear a robin a-wlnfzling a tune which sounded strangely like My Bonne!! Lies over the Ocean . Every now and then she would swat the air saying, These fiiex :ure are pesky. Why hello there, little girl. What is in your basket? growled a wolf jumping out of the bushes. You, fir, ala go away! she said, shaking and Srbimmarking. The wolf, as Little Purple noted, was well lil. So, she look 'er basket and started off. Look here Purp, he pleaded, to be Franco with you, I am all broke. I have not had a square meal since New Year's Nievexf' My mother says that we should never let any wolf or man Jfare uf. Hazzon't yours? So, I will be on my way. l wonder if I can trufl 'er? thought the wolf. I had better reach Barnard first.

I should have stood in bed -Jacobs Meanwhile, Grandpa was in the midst of dis- cussing a program with one of his Jterling neuxromerrf' Afler Elymology you will take Spanish III, he said. Yazz l No sooner had the boy left Grandpa's ofhce than the wolf jumped in the window -like Glenn Davir. He locked Grandfather in the closet, assumed a dis- guise, and, prefring Bork in a chair, awaited his prey. In the meantime, Little Purple came up the drive- way. When she saw the Gartner, she reminded him that panry man was coming soon. Then, she walked into the building. Hi, Gramps! Hello, the wolf barked, showing his pearly white teeth. What long ears you have, and what sharp fangs ! Be quiet and give me an apple! You are not my Grandfather, and I will not give you an apple, bum Y Although she was frightened clear down to her marrow, she thought of her grandfather's old hunting horn. Reaching for it she knocked Gramp's antique wine rfeirz off the wall ,II rlinzned the wolf. This noise attracted a passing miller who subdued the beast in a Fei! any lerfer man would have lost. 1 Thif ir more than I can stand! Little Purple shrieked, Alellzering into the miller's arms. Do not worry, he said, I will call Sarge and have wolfie thrown into the Briggs. So Little Purple Riding Hood, the miller, Grand father, and Sarge lived happily ever after. And now, kiddies, ofi' to bed to await the Sm1dlemar1's visit. CCondolences to Licbteurlern, Slieglilz, and K16ilZbr1ll77l.D Appearances are deceptive -Aesop -2
