Senior Prom This year the Senior Prom was Barnards rirst to be fully organized and presented by the school administra- tion. It featured a fine three piece dance band and beautiful decorations. Our gymnasium allowed a fabu- lous amount of room to an attendance of about two- thirds of the class. The teachers in dark tuxedos, Seniors in white dinner jackets, and girls in their stunning formals lent a charming and polished touch to the affair. T . i U ...X :YQ T Hors-d'Oeuvres and punch were served at about ten thirty and shortly thereafter the couples started to leave. A majority went to the Waldorf Astoria, while others went to the Copacabana. Those at the XY'aldorf saw johnny Rayg while the Copa crowd sang along with Tony Martin. Practically everyone present raved about the entire occasion and strongly recommended the same type to next years graduates. W ,, 1 rm - ,X -- ,.'q s' -A ,.4'L- gtg?

Sixteen of the thirty-six boys in the class went out for the squad this year. In the preliminary practices the team was shaping up very well under the expert coaching of experienced Mickey McCann. This has been Mr. McCann s third consecu- tive year as Frosh Baseball coach. The team's schedule included such rivals as Engle- wood, Horace Mann Ctwicej, Riverdale Ctwicej, and Columbia Grammar. The Freshmen lineup was bas- ically as follows. jeffrey Berkowitz and Bob Reggio took care of the pitching chores in good form. When Berkowitz pitched, Reggio took another position in the outfield. Bruce Bain handled catching, with Shoren- stein as his number one sub. At first base there was the dependable Bob Katz. Playing the keystone with a good bit of grace was Dave Schneider. An excellent prospect for future varsity teams was shortstop johnny O Grady. Third base was played by Berkowitz when he did not pitch. The outfield consisted of three heavy hitters, Ian I-lerschaft, oel Banilower, and Steve erome. Other boys who saw a lot of action were Tom Shoe- smith, George Thunhorst, Lawrence I-lausen, Robert Conklin, Mel Colby, and Gary Berger. This year's team showed that Barnard has a bright future as far as Baseball is concerned. Although the record was not as good as it might have been, all games were very close contests with Frosh Nine playing hard all the way.

Mr. Rowley, Coaches Davis and Bock conducted the announc- ing and distribution of Varsity, junior Varsity, and Frosh letters for all spring sports. Major literary medals were given to Brian Gartner and Buzzy Marrow - Cbaulirleer editors, Andy Rabinowitz and Isaac Fleischer- Purple B editors, and Roger Zeeman - Bri: editor. Among the other notable events of the assembly was the presentation of a gift to Mr. Bock, who is leaving Barnard next year to further his studies. Don Franco, Student Council Vice- president, gave him a stunning key chain on behalf of the entire student body. Mr. Rowley was also the recipient of a touching gift when Roger Zeeman announced the yearbook dedication and offered him the first 1957 Barnard Brir. After a short graduation rehearsal all students except Seniors left school. Everyone en oyed a very pleasant half-day. The Seniors had a fine luncheon with the faculty. It was a great way to prelude the thrilling facutly-Senior softball game. Amazingly enough, the faculty managed to score a victory! Oh, well, wait 'till next year! Field Day After months of organization by the Student Council, the high school took a trip to Bear Mountain. The boys met in school at ten o'c1ock on the morning of june 3. Clad in neatly pressed dungarees, they boarded school buses for the trip to the Yonkers boat dock. On or about 11255, the Andrea Doria, Alexander Hamilton, or whatever you wish to call it, docked at the pier. From then on the excitement began. As the excursion passed the scenic route of the Hudson River shore line, the Barnardians took over the boat. Upon reaching Bear Mountain, the boys hiked to play fields and recreation areas. The next delight was lunch. How glad everyone was to see the good old Bickford sandwiches. Messrs. Sterling, Davis, Briggs, Feit, Lyon, and Bock distributed the food. At two o'c1ock the group scurried to the baseball fields, where juniors played Seniors and Sophomores played Freshmen with the aid of several teachers on all squads. Those who did not want to participate went skating, swimming, or used the archery ranges. At 5 150, after a delectible frankfurter treat, everyone returned to the boat. The trip back climaxed a terrific day and the entire high school is anxiously looking forward to next year's outing.
