The major excitement of the season was the week- Cfld trip to Pennsylvania for the Penn relays. A chosen group of six team members represented Barnard in the mile relay. The team ran in the order of: NX'allen- stein, Mayer, Cohen. Carnase. The two subs were Mullane and Goldberg. Although lfretsky was sick and could not run anchor for the Bears the team finished fifth out of eight. Another point worth mentioning is the meet with Salesian on May seventh. Since Barnard's weakness lay in the field events, it lost a close meet. The quarter mile was won by XY'allenstein. Arnold Cohen took first in the half mile. The mile saw Pat Mullane victorious. Barry XX'allenstein also took second in the 100 and 200 yard dashes. A relay team of Mayer, Cohen, Carnase, XY'allenstein snapped the final tape. Here are a few flashes of individual accomplish- ments: Norm Lfretsky broke the half mile record ofthe school with a time of 2 minutes 11 seconds. Barry XX'allenstein came within one-tenth of a second from breaking the record for the 100 yard dash, and two- tenths of a second from breaking the 220 dash record. The team could be said to be strong in individual potential and spirit. Since it contains many under- graduates, great things can be seen for the future cindermen at Barnard. VARSITY TRACK Frou!
