HISTORY In September ot 1953 the tollowrng erght freshmen enrolled ln Barnard l-lxgh School Arnold Good NexlDowl1n Jolene Kelly Peggy Saunders Galen Bud Elsre Wallace Eugene Shlrley and Marlene Kelly The otflcers were elected as follows Arnold presldent, Nefrl, vlce-prestdemt, Jolene secretary treasurer and Peggy and Galen were elected to the student councll A one day 1n1t1at1on ended wlth an all school party ln the everung at the high school gymtruasrum To rar money for the treasurer the class had a bake sale Durrng the year Peggy and Arnold partlclpated tn the one act play Jolene was rn the lunxor play and Marlene ln the semor play Mr Woodworth muslc teacher was the class sponsor The tall of 54 lound the class short one member for Galen Blrd had moved to Llncoln durmg the summer months Eugene was elected presldent Els e v1ce prestdent, Marlene secretary treasurer, and Elste and Eugene were elect ed to the student councrl The class conducted a magazme sale to ralse some money Pegg was rn the one a t play and Marlene was IH the semor p ay Mt. Rex Coatney coach science and xndustrlal arts teacher was class sponsor When classes began rn the fall oi 55 the class agam numbered elght fo George Pepper had transferred from Wlchxta George had prevtously beenfwrth the class 1n the grades The class elected Arnold as presldent, Elste vrce-wpresxden Peggy ecretary treasurer, Jolene and Eugene were elected to tudent councll Mrs Mas tel ar home econornrcs and Englrsh teacher was the c ass sponsor ln November th class presented the play We re Young Only Once George left durtng the hr t semester when he jolned the servlce The blg event of the year Was the Plrom wuth the theme of Moonhght and Roses In the sprx og the seruors entertarned the c ass wtth a roller skatmg party at the Barnard Park The student body elected Eu gene Shlrley presldent of the student councxl for the next year Arnold Marlene Peggy Jolene and Nell were tn the one act play At the begmnlng ot the semor year rn September 56 there were mne 'nembers for Garry and Larry Abell tw n , transferred from Trlbuae Class oth e s were elected as iollows Arnold, prestdent Garry Vlsle-pl'6S1d8l'1l Marlene sec retary treasurer and Jolene Marlene and Nerl were eleceted to the student coun xl Mrs Paul Lewxck, commerce teacher Was appolnted as our sporusor Larry left us and joxned the army durlntg the tlrst sefrnlester Arnold was captaln of th football team and Marlene was chosen home omung queen The class edrted the school paper and the ant rual Jolene Kelly was marrled October 29 to Charles Brcclcway class of 55, and was graduated at the end ot the hrst semester The c a s play A Ready Mxade Farruly was presentted rn Aprtl The semor class of 1957 led!
