BASKETBALL Cwharlie Gouldin, Donald Meisick, Wayne Richardson, Floyd Bla-nding, Frank McKanna, fCoachl Mr. Robert Decker. The Barnard Basket Ball t-exam featured this year Captain Richardson, Me-sick, F. McKanna, Gouldin, and Blranding. Althougih tihis was the 'first year at Basket Ball the team played fast and met with good success-Captain Richardson being the higwh point man. Captain Wayne Richardison- Rich had the ability as a jumper and was also a good goal shooter. This is his last year. Frank McKanna- Mac was always on the job at guard and it was seldom that any one got behind him in his territory. Donald Mesick- Fat was a very good guard and also a sure shot avt the basket from a long' distance. Charlie Gouldin-Charlie was a good forward and always on the job. Floyd Blanding- Spot was exceptionally g-ood at forward and guard and could always come in for his share of the goals when they were nee-ded worst. PAGE TWENTY-THREE

HIGH SCHOOL CALENDAR September :-4School opened Monday the filfth with a short chapel program, in- troduction of the ccach, and general .outlining of courses. During this month Lloyd M1cKanna of Itally, Texas entered sch.ool here. The Freshmen were initiated and the Girl Reserve Club organized. The total enrollment in school was ninety-eight. October:-Barnard High suffered defeat in a :football ga-me with Simpson, but instead off Lincoln sku-nkirg ' us, we skunk-ed 'them 6 to 0. A Girl Reserve Convention was held at Salina and was attended by several Barnard delegates. The Girls' Glee Club were entertain-ed at a Hall-owe'en party at the home of Miss Gibbs. November :-'School was close-d for the State- Teachers' 'Convenction which sev- eral of the teachers attended. The Music classes ,presented the operetta The Gypsy Rover, wfhich was a big success. The football season closed on Tha,n.ksgivin.g Day with a game between Barnard and Hunter, in which we were defeated. December :-The Boys' Basket Biall Team was organized and played their first game at Vesper. School was closed for the Holidays. January:-School failed to open until a week .later than was expected on ac- count of several cases of ldiphtherial. The All School plav cast was chosen and practice started immediately alter school opened. Semester examinations we-re given and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. February :-The Seniors had their pictures taken and the class pictures were taken also. During this month the High S-chool play was given. Miss Carlyle, a Girl Reserve assistant came to visit our club. March:--The Sophomore class was entertained at the home of Allen Clark in honor of his birthday. They also had -a class pa-rty at Doris Harrell's. The play cast was cihosen for the play Eyes of L3ve. Many .students were absent this month on accounrt of the flu epidemic but everyone- survived and they were soon back at school. The Seniors began to prepare for graiduation week. April:-The play, Eyes .of Love, was given as the last number of the Lyceum Course. The Senior-Ju.nior reception was held on the twenty-third and everyone had an enjoyable time. T-he Junior 'play Welcome Home Jimmy, was presented. May :-Many tlhin-gs :happen in -the month of Miay, with closing events of the school year -following in ouicfk succession. Among them the music recital of the high .school music classes on May second. On the-sixth, one of the senior girls changed he-r namellrom Pierce to 'Hall. The Junior-Senior 'banquet was held on the elevemth and the senior p-lay, Smile, 'Rodney Smile, on the sixteentlh. C'mmencement week dates include the Baccalaureate sermon on the twentieth, Class Day on the twenty- selcond and Colmimencement, the final event of the school year, on the 'twenty-fifth. - PAGE 1ivvijiliTY F1v1-.
