THE 90th VOLUME OF MORTARBOARD KENNETH JANES UPON HIS RETIRE DIRECTOR OF THE MINOR LATHAM What can I say about Kenneth Janes? Personally — He has been my counselor, my boss and my friend. He has been someone for me to count on through both good and bad times and he has never failed to listen quietly and patiently. Professionally — He is an extremely creative and dedicated artist. He is not only a fine actor, but his performance of a music hall song is a unique experience for an audience. He is a superb director and both a witty and touching playwright. Kenneth Janes came to the United States and Yale University as a fellow with the Rockefeller Foundation. He arrived at Barnard College in 1962. As head of the Minor Latham Playhouse and Director of the Barnard College Theatre Company he has enriched the lives of everyone at Barnard. During the past twenty years he has conducted innumerable workshops and classes. He has directed over one hundred plays which have included one act plays, original works and classics. He has encouraged and assisted performances by many groups in the Barnard-Columbia community. What can I say about Kenneth Janes?
