faculty Classrooms and conferences are the usual settings in which Barnard stu- dents see their professors. Barnard pro- fessors guide students ' academic ca- reers and inspire them to pursue indi- vidual interests. Barnard professors are a dedicated group of men and women who receive the greatest satisfaction from seeing their efforts awaken interest in their students. Their enthusiasm is of vital importance and their advice is re- quested and respected. Their influence, however, is not re- stricted to the campus. Barnard profes- sors have written for Harper ' s Magazine, Columbia University Forum, The New York Times, and Variety; they have spoken over WNEW-TV, NBC-TV, WNYC-FM, ABC-TV, CBS Radio; they have participated in panels and confer- ences in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and as far away as Revenna and Tunis. They have studied in Belgium and taught in Formosa. Among their many awards, they have received Guggenheim Fellowships and a National Institute of Health Research Grant. Acute consciousness of a respon- sibility to educate and active participa- tion in the outside world — these are the characteristics of the members of the Barnard faculty.
