is to most freshmen almost a mythical figure, but during his too brief stay on the Columbia campus his warm personality and friendly smile made him a well-liked figure at the University. His willingness to devote himself to new and difficult tasks led him to his present role in an interna- tional rather than a campus setting, and we know that he will receive as much ap- plause on the larger stage as he did on ours. tfiaifJQH ' KOl k. in the ab- sence of President Eisenhower, is acting head of Columbia University and has suc- cessfully taken over the numerous duties that this office demands. He is known as an educator, an author, and for his dis- tinguished work in Government service. To his new position at the helm of the Uni- versity he has brought all those ideals of scholarship which those who are in college strive to maintain.

As an educator, she symbolizes ever-broadening career possi- bilities for women, and has helped us both spiritually and intellectually to prepare for our future roles outside col- lege. As a homemaker she has given us a fine example of how the methods of academic learning can be applied to the workings of daily living. Enriched by her counsel, we are better able to face the problems of the world today with courage, faith, and optimism.
