Hello, hello, hello — welcome, dear, wel- come to Barnard . . . Jeans to luncheon? Well, we ' ll put you at the far end of the table . . . Come chickadees, let ' s meet our class. Class of ' 55 — I remember when I was a fresh — men, tonight? Oh yes, occasion- ally. . . . No, you can wear heels to the dance — that is, if you can dance on your knees. . . . This is Milbank, Barnard Hall, the Annex, and dears, that, oh! that, is Columbia! You ' ll love Barnard, love it, love it, love it! . . . Work hard? No-o-o, not if you carry a six-point program ... Do go to Playday, Charlotte, it ' s so much fun! Big, strong men, future Columbia stars, and even bigger and more solid volleyballs . . . Goodbye, dears, see you on campus, and Charlotte, try a raw steak on your volley- ball eye! Miss Palmer serves as mistress of ceremonies . . . but they also serve who wait. Freshman Orientation ' Tour, anyone? A loaf of bread, a jug of wine, and the class of ' 55 at dinner.

' How ' dja doooo. Ladies! A quorum at last, Mme. President! ' Junior Dinner Six-seven-eight-nine pretzels, jackpot! A swell start to Junior Dinner. Too close to the head table? Listen, Dr. Eliot knows we ' re joy-girls! Food! Good! How can we split the extra dinner? Twelve of us, eleven peas, who ' s gonna split one? Hey you back there! Yeah, you, the White Rabbit, get that thar ear down. Heath, the Cheshire Cat never, never, never, wore a red tail — nor did Tweedle- dum and his pal wear scanties. Maaad I tell you, maaad, the Hatter that is. What a way to welcome our Transfers. Imagine the impression we ' re giving them! Honey, don ' t drink your coffee from the saucer . . . this is our Junior Transfer Dinner. ' Tis our will! Everyone in character . . . the Jabberwocks. Quoth the March Hare, Dance? With those girls! 8
