Political Council War and threat of war flung a challenge to thinking students on the campus — and Political Council accepted that challenge with enthus- iasm and zeal. To coordinate the activities of college political groups, to provide a central- ized outlet for student opinion on matters of public interest, Political Council held assemblies and sponsored forums. Sir Norman Angell, noted English author, was P. C.s guest speaker on one oc casion, while over 40 Barnardites voci- ferously argued the nature of American neu- trality on another. A. A. This year the Athletic Association introduced several welcome innovations. They originated the Friday afternoon athletic programs, to which twenty-five Columbia boys and twenty-five Barnard girls are invited. They started a bulletin. And, as in the past, they sponsored Harvest Hop. Decorations were in a fall mood — leaves and autumn colors — with an authentic looking wishing well in the center of the floor for aspiring dreamers. 23
