Department of Health and Physical Education The purpose of the department of health and physical education are to pro- vide a well rounded service program for all students, courses for prospective teachers in the elementary school, electives for students who wish a more thor- ough background in this area and to offer all students opportunities for intra- mural participation. The objectives are to aid the student in achieving and main- taining optimum health and to understand the principles upon which health is founded: to develop skills for leisure hours: to present activities which provide immediate conditioning and recreation benefits: to provide leadership opportun- ities through intramural programs and sports and dance clubsg to develop an understanding and appreciation of physical education and the role of physical activity in the maintenance of sound physical and mental healthg and to create an awareness of potential accidents and to develop knowledge and skill in car- ing for emergencies. Department of Religion and Philosophy The ultimate purpose of this department is to help the student develop keen- er insights into spiritual values and understandings of the deeper meaning of life as a whole. The study of Bible is fundamental in the offering of the depart- ment both in its intellectual appeal and its challenging message of the heart of earnest student. The study of philosophy is the corollary offering with its appeal for an understanding and an appreciation for the realities inherent in human existence.
