Deqrtment of Home Economics The purposes of the Department of Home Economics are not only to prepare teachers of Home Economics at the secondary level who are competent in the several areas of their field but also to provide a program for those students not electing to teach, to guide students in their personal development mentally, physically, socially, and spiri- tually, and to help increase their awareness of the problems of so- ciety as they relate to the home. Department of English and Literature The goal of instruction in English whether it embraces language, litera- ture, or composition is to give the student tools of learning both spiritual and intellectual with which he is able to explore the ages, satisfy his desire for truth, adapt to his total environment immediate and ultimate and con- vey his knowledge articulately and forcefully. The Department of English and Literature seeks to project those skills which are included in the broad area of communication, to interpret the ways that language reflects atti- tudes and emotions, to disclose the power and beauty of literatureg to chal- lenge the student's full potential as an individual and to prepare teachers of English and Literature.
