Department of English and Literature The goal of instruction in English whether it embraces language, litera- ture, or composition is to give the student tools of learning both spiritual and intellectual with which he is able to explore the ages, satisfy his desire for truth, adapt to his total environment immediate and ultimate and con- vey his knowledge articulately and forcefully.
